I'm actually well aware of this as I know some people who moved from the states to Puerto Rico. I don't see it becoming a state soon either. By being a free-association Puerto Ricans get fantastic benefits and avoid some of the pitfalls of living in the US.

As for losing the language, unlikely. The United States has no official language so they can't impose that you change languages, but they can probably recommend that English is taught in public schools, which should be taught anyway.

That's what I believe as well, but some people do have that misconception about PR being assimilated and cultural background eliminated entirely. Don't know why. I'd love PR to be a state, but it's just not feasible at the time, we have other, more immediate things to deal with like our economy (16% unemployment rate), and the exceedingly high crime rate in my opinion.

English is taught at schools but everyone over here just prefers to speak Spanish.
