It's not picking on religion. It's picking on what some people are like IN that religion. I know a guy through online gaming who is exactly like that. I'm okay with that, I'm not okay with the fact he is against homosexuality) There are other comics that do the same for Atheism.

It's a dilution thing: Many, many scientists during the Age of Enlightenment were of western, Christian origins. The fact many great scientists were religious is no more impressive that the majority of African Chieftains were black; it just happened that way through a multitude of social and historical factors.
Sir Isaac Newton was a fundamentalist Catholic. He revolutionized physics and (may have) invented Calculus. However, the man was batshit crazy; He stuck a needle in his eye for... Well, no one really knows why. That's why we focus on his Three Laws of Motion rather than Theological works.

I understand what you're saying completely. But I fail to understand why this comic decides it's okay to pick on religion when it was really responsible for laying the foundation for modern science (not necessarily just the religion, but the institution).

Yes the Catholic church has many scientists working for them. Unfortunately 90% of these situations come from Christians and direct Christian denominations that reject the Catholic church and therefore reject the Vatican.

Are you kidding me.. You know NOTHING about this, wikipedia is one of the most unreliable sources there is.. This priest didn't come up with the expansion of the universe..

you browse the web trying to find something to comment to show there's a religious scientist. SO what if there is? That dosen't prove anything at all.

There's scientists that have molested and murdered people, does that make his beliefes correct?
User avatar #79 - Dap (12/08/2012) [-]
Wikipedia is by far the greatest collection of knowledge on the internet, with ACCURACY.

People who say it's unreliable are just ridiculous..

Mendel was just studying inheritance patterns. He had no intention of relating it to religion. It was simply something he took notice of and tried to make sense of.

The difference is that in his time, studying something like inheritance patterns wasn't seen as an act against God. Now this distinction exists. If it's science it must be against religion. I never said I disagreed with you.

The point this comic is making is the church rejecting any and all scientific proof. My counterpoint is that it was actually the church and it's followers that came up with some of the brightest scientific discoveries known to man. Gregor Mendel for example.

still, no-one carries a cocked pistol in a holster, you have the hammer in the safe position at all times if you're going to carry a chambered round, this means you can still fire without re-arming the slide you just have to pull the trigger harder, thus is the joy of the double-action firing mechanism.
#33 - serviceshuah (11/03/2012) [-]
Actually in the Air Force the Security Forces do carry a locked and cocked 9 mm beretta. Which is amazing why this doesn't happen all the time.
User avatar #38 - undereightyeight (11/05/2012) [-]
As for serpas (I'm not sure what you guys are carrying). They place your finger parallel with the slide when you depress the lock...even as you slide the pistol out, it would seem impossible to shoot yourself in the leg as you'd just be curling your finger against the slide.

Except this "attack" was a joke and actually something theists do, yours was just a line that was purely antagonistic and well had no point in being said.

Stop feeling so abused and prove your god. Pretty simple.
User avatar #190 - Axelfbomber (10/28/2012) [-]
How about instead of implying it's something all theists do, it is something that everyone does. It doesn't matter if you are a theist or an atheist. There are assholes on both sides.
User avatar #192 - noblexfenrir (10/28/2012) [-]
I know this, I was referring my comment to OP not towards anyone else, except the part where I mentioned the post and said how many theists do this and they do atleast many outspoken scientist theists do. Otherwise I made no mention of theists being innately assholes, I know this is a wrong assessment.
