The problem is they tried to give realistic character arcs while also making them caricatures.

Sheldon went from being OCD and anti-social but still a normal guy to a psychopathic control freak with no idea how to interact with people.

Leonard went from a misguided romantic to the butt monkey of the group.

Howard went from the pervy guy to a manchild in need of serious psychiatric help.

Raj was pretty much always a joke character, but then they saw him act drunk once and he had to be constantly inebriated from then on, even when it made no sense.

Penny went from being a stereotypical blonde ditz (albeit a rather funny one) to the most competent character on the show by far. The whole thing that made the show interesting at the start was that the geeks and Penny were both at the extremes of their archetypes. Most of the problems in the first season came from Penny screwing up or trusting someone she shouldn't have. But then Sheldon became cancer and they needed someone hyper-competent to fix all his messes.

And... I'm supposed to give a crap about these characters? I'm supposed to feel bad when the titanic jerkass Sheldon gets hurt? I'm supposed to care when Leonard fucks up his love life for the millionth time? I'm supposed to just accept that the newly hyper-competent Penny continues hanging out with these people who can't get their lives together and barely function without her? I'm supposed to cheer when 4chan: The Character gets married?

Seinfeld had a cast of horrible people but it never asked you to care about them or get emotionally involved. FRIENDS did, but they were careful (until the shitty final seasons) to keep their characters realistic and likable. BBT needs to pick a side and stick with it.

I like the earlier seasons up to and including season 7 is tolerable, although the cringy stuff steadily builds. , I have seen everything up to and including season 8, twice, but it's so bad. The season finale for season 8 was filled with cliffhangers, but it was all so cliched that it ruined it.

I like the idea of the Big Bang Theory, I don't like the execution. Earlier it was nerd sitcom with romantic subplot, now it's romance sitcom #19434 with these people (who happen to be nerds), and even for being that it's not really that good.

I would say it's a very high tier mecha anime that is very smart and fast paced. Everyone has their opinion of what the best is. Around 50 episodes, not too long, but definitely worth the watch.
