yeah, though it's a good idea I hate seeing people use the word "infinite" when dealing with physics

this however would last you a very very long time and you could use the money you save by selling the massive amount of power that you could generate to replace the magnet and make yourself a nice profit

Your infinite gravity loop would function as a gravity tractor and slowly alter the earth's orbit. Could, you know, be a bad thing.
#51 - xxxsonic fanxxx (11/26/2013) [-]
Also, interestingly, if you were able to put in into a vacuum tube and let it continually accelerate (we'll assume you have some sort of system to prevent it from hitting the sides), it would start gaining mass (theory of relativity). As it got faster and faster it would become more and more massive, pulling more and more on the earth.

It would eventually reach the point it would have enough mass/gravity to tear its vacuum tube apart (or otherwise break things). When exposed to the atmosphere (as well as any debris pulled in by the gravity) the massive amounts of friction would instantly cause an explosion.

In order to generate sufficient gravity to disrupt our vacuum tube, our object would have to be moving at relativistic (near-light) speeds. At this point we can also assume whatever was preventing the object from drifting has failed, and that the influx of atmosphere/debris will push it to the edge of the portal. As soon as our object hits the side of the portal... goodbye earth.
#59 - xxxsonic fanxxx (11/26/2013) [-]
This is all assuming, that our gravity tractor hasn't sucked us off into space, of course. Also, the explosion would probably disrupt the portals anyway, so the whole bit about drifting isn't even needed.

Hardest part would be preventing drift prior to failure - before you reach these speeds. I have no idea how the coriolis effect and an disruption of orbit would affect this system.

Even if we could make portals, they'd never be allowed to the public for this very reason. Someone would try this in their back yard and blow up themselves and/or their city. If you were to drop a gallon jug of water into the vacuum and let it fall for 20 minutes, it would have energy comparable to 600kg of TNT. For reference this is ~2.2x the explosive force the mythbusters had when they blew up the cement truck.

if you read the spoiler, there is no such thing as a perfect vacuum, even in outer space there are trace amounts of gasses and microparticles that hit things when you are flying about, and even if we could there is no known substance that could handle enough pressure to maintain such a vacuum

yeah, most people that read the comics knows that the first avengers only had captain america, iron man etc the reason why antman/wasp/panter werent in it was because they didnt have movies yet, I guess...

I'm surprised they even put hawkeye the movie, but I guess since I a sniper with a bow and arrow doesnt need as much back story for his own movie.

Black widow made the cameo in ironman2, since iron man2 was just a big commercial teaser for the avengers than an actual movie..

and spiderman is owned sony, even though spiderman isnt a part of the avengers, the movies are very uncanon and unfaithful to the comics anyway so I bet if they did have him they'd at least show a cameo after credit scene with him.

btw, I hate the amazing spiderman movies, I'd rather if the same people that wrote the normal marvel movies did it instead..

hawkeye had that 10 minutes screen time in the thor movie where he just aimed his bow at thor before being called off...i dont understand why they didnt just give ant man wasp and black panther that type of cameo and force them in instead...it would have made the comic book fans happy...

Spiderman has worked with the avengers many times same with x-men and fantastic four.

Also I think the fantastic four(who live in new york) and the x-men would show up to help new york if it was in trouble. Hell mutants that aren't part of the x-men like angel who live in new york and who's sole purpose is to help the city would have been around helping.

They do not exist in that universe because they do not have to rights to use them. It's that simple.

i see you dont read comics...that explains a lot

originally the avengers usually band up as a rogue faction of superheroes working outside of shield/goverment authority(but usually being the first group to gain the approval of goverment) and they usually team up to fight a threat far bigger than what a single avenger can handle (loki being the first foe they fought in the very original comic)(thou i think it has changed between reboots and different universes)

the original members were hulk, thor, iron man, wasp, ant man, black panther and captain america

ever since then they have had more members join and leave as they please, including such heroes as she hulk, spiderman, thing, wolverine and so on.

and spiderman is owned sony, even though spiderman isnt a part of the avengers, the movies are very uncanon and unfaithful to the comics anyway so I bet if they did have him they'd at least show a cameo after credit scene with him.

btw, I hate the amazing spiderman movies, I'd rather if the same people that wrote the normal marvel movies did it instead..

hawkeye had that 10 minutes screen time in the thor movie where he just aimed his bow at thor before being called off...i dont understand why they didnt just give ant man wasp and black panther that type of cameo and force them in instead...it would have made the comic book fans happy...

and yeah i am kinda irked of by what i have seen of the new spiderman movie so far...

It's that simple.

showing up is not being part of the avengers thou....wich is the thing we are trying to discuss here.
#27 - uberfionn (11/21/2013) [-]
And does one become part of the avengers?

Do you sign something or just defend the earth while working with shield?

Some how I don't think Thor or hulk would ever sign anything.
#28 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
i see you dont read comics...that explains a lot

originally the avengers usually band up as a rogue faction of superheroes working outside of shield/goverment authority(but usually being the first group to gain the approval of goverment) and they usually team up to fight a threat far bigger than what a single avenger can handle (loki being the first foe they fought in the very original comic)(thou i think it has changed between reboots and different universes)

the original members were hulk, thor, iron man, wasp, ant man, black panther and captain america

ever since then they have had more members join and leave as they please, including such heroes as she hulk, spiderman, thing, wolverine and so on.

You forgot both Wolverine who was an original Avenger and Namor as well
#49 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
wolverine wasnt an orginal...neither was namor...also the very original avengers didnt have black panther or captain america neither

your right, it was Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, The Wasp and Hulk, with Cap, Hawk eye , and Black panther being the initial recruits
#29 - uberfionn (11/21/2013) [-]
Ok, but I was talking movie cannon.

If wolverine showed up in the avengers movie and helped save new york would they have said he was part of the avengers?

Or any super hero.
#30 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
in the movie the avengers were goverment sanctioned superheroes working with/for the goverment.

x men are mostly hated in the universe (racism and shit)
#32 - uberfionn (11/21/2013) [-]
But Thor just shows up hits things, talks for five mins and then hits more things.

He fights with them 'cos they have a common goal. So not and official part of the avengers then
Hulk is the same.
Iron man is a consultant.

So the avengers in this movie are Black widow and Hawkeye?
#33 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
all of them were in one way or another called/brought there and had been planned to be part of the avengers from the very beginning.this was shown through out the movies remember.
#34 - uberfionn (11/21/2013) [-]
Yes and if they had the rights to the other hero's and made films about them they would have planed to make them part of the movie.

To sum up my point so far:

If they had the rights and had made the films they would have put them in the avengers.

If speaking of the cannon of the Avengers movie the x-men, spiderman and the fantastic four don't exist.
#35 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
why would they have smashed every possible superhero in to the avengers?that is just stupid

they have to think about the story too....and x men spiderman and fantastic four do exist in the movie universe ><
#36 - uberfionn (11/21/2013) [-]
They don't.

Look it up. They don't have the film rights because they sold them off. They can't even mention them without permission form the people who hold the rights.
#37 - angelious (11/21/2013) [-]
yes.but just even if they had the film rights there is no reason for them to have them in the avengers...since none of those are members of avengers ><

yeah, most people that read the comics knows that the first avengers only had captain america, iron man etc the reason why antman/wasp/panter werent in it was because they didnt have movies yet, I guess...

I'm surprised they even put hawkeye the movie, but I guess since I a sniper with a bow and arrow doesnt need as much back story for his own movie.
