| I never said gay marriage should be kept illegal. I'm not homophobic. At both of the Churches I've attended, they have said you don't have to believe in every little thing in the bible! There are things that are outdated in there, the way society was back then. I can eat sea food and approve of women in higher positions than men. I'm still a Christian nonetheless! I believe in the entire bible. You can interpret it in many different ways. | ||

| Obviously there are things you can pick and choose throughout the bible! I eat shrimp, wear different fabrics, and treat everyone equally. That's still being a Christian. There are things more emphasized in the bible that you pay attention to, such as the 10 commandments. #381

tyraxio (01/02/2013) [-] You're so fucking hypocritical man. I say, you can be two kinds of Christian. Either, you believe in a God and believe Jesus was "heavensent" and disregard the Old Testament completely, or you believe in the whole shebang. No, you can't pick and choose. 10 commandments are just as big a part of the Bible as the other rules dictated in there, but let's say they're worth more. Replying to another comment, you said that gay marriage should be kept illegal. Why is that? The rule that gay people shouldn't have the right to marry are just as "emphasized" as the rule that women should be silent. I never said gay marriage should be kept illegal. I'm not homophobic. N. Korean citizen (01/02/2013) [-] Surely it's either relevant, or not. If the bible is the word of the lord then Women cannot preach, gays cannot marry and seafood is forbidden. If it is not the word of the lord then it is simply an outdated book which should be mostly ignored in a modern context. And before you start preaching the absolute importance of the moral lessons it teaches, explain the existence iof morality in non-christian countries. #363

tyraxio (01/02/2013) [-] Why should it have changed? The ten commandments are old too, does that mean we should go out killing and lying and stealing? Either you believe in your book, or you don't. I'm not even kidding right now, but you can't just pick the parts you agree with and pretend the ones you don't agree with are not valid. Or, yes, you can, but then you're not a Christian, then you're making your own religion, which is just fine. Obviously there are things you can pick and choose throughout the bible! I eat shrimp, wear different fabrics, and treat everyone equally. That's still being a Christian. There are things more emphasized in the bible that you pay attention to, such as the 10 commandments. #381
