Yes, I understand. Obviously not every arrest is assault. For instance, stopping a murderer or thief is justified, because that person is an aggressor and violated a person or their property, and in that case it would be moral for any person to intervene on behalf of another, badge or not.

However, it's immoral to harm someone when they're not violating person or property, and this guy wasn't doing either. He was approached by several armed people and told to surrender, and he chose to peacefully stand and not submit. He did nothing wrong in that.

To be clear, I don't think that the NY case was justified. I still think resisting arrest is just a bad choice in general, but that still doesn't justify it and I'm not going to try to claim that. Still, I think that you just chose poor examples to compare to being arrested.
#108 - Mugging and rape are illegal and unwarranted in any scenario.  [+] (4 new replies) 12/19/2014 on Police Brutality 0

So that's legality.

What about morality? Why is it assault by one person, but called arrest by another person?
User avatar #115 - trollmetoday (12/19/2014) [-]
That's why the term "police brutality" exists. Defining every arrest as assault just doesn't make any sense; surely you understand this?
