Reddit is an online forum where people are linked to the original source of everything interesting on the web. This sends online traffic through the creator's website, giving them 100% credit. This provides the creator with ad revenue for their own selves, making reddit a valuable tool for those who use the internet for exposure.

The upvote/downvote system is based on whether or not content is relevant. It is not the popular opinion that gets the vote.

Funnyjunk steals images from the web, and puts them on its own website, calling it "original content." This has caused numerous online artists (C&H and the Oatmeal) to fight back at FJ for their stealing of their content. Since all traffic flows through one website, FJ can steal ad revenue, and potential merchandise sales, that may have gone to the creator if the content were found through the original website.

The "Thumb up" system is all popular opinion, especially in the comments. This thread proves that.
