Let me be clear. Im not just some heartless asshole who has no sympathy for rape victims. A good majority of the crime ISNT their fault. It's the Rapist's. I see what you are trying to say: If their isn't a rapist, there is no rape. Unfortunatly, rapists will always exist. We cant change that. However, we can do things to PREVENT the crime from happening (IE, taking responsibility)

A situation very simiar to the 5 dollar story happened to me a few years back. Except it was my car. I parked it on the beach and left the keys on top of the driver side tire while I went surfing. I came back, and lo and behold, my car was gone. Now, I don't need anyone telling me this because I'll be the first to admit: Those were MY keys; That was MY car;It was MY responsibility. I made a poor decision and I paid the price og being a victim of car theft. Could I control the fact that there was a car theif in the area? No. I could have, however, done something smarter than leaving my car keys so accessable.

Bottom line, this was just like any crime. Not completly my fault, but I do hold some responsiblity to getting it stolen by giving the theif an easier opportunity. Just like a rape victim holds SOME responsibility to being raped by making the circmstances for the rapist easier. I believe people are accountable forwhat happens to them, and I hold myself to that atandard as well. You may not think that, but I don't prefer playing the blame game. If someone doesn't want to be raped, they should take measures to prevent it. I am responsible for my own saftey, just like you are responsible for your own saftey and rape victims are responsible for their own safter. To me, throwing your hands in the air and saying "hey, if I get raped or not is up to you, not me" is basically commiting suicide.

Anyway, I know you dont agree with any of this, but that is my last speal I wanted to share. Good day.

You are telling me that, even though I could have made a physical concious effort to prevent being stolen from, I still hold no responsibility whatsoever.
It's called taking care of yourself.
User avatar #485 - touriopalfreyman (05/16/2014) [-]
If you lost $5, yeah, that wasn't smart and you are probably responsible for said loss. However, the example you presented was that someone took the $5. Therefore it is their responsibility for taking it. You may have enabled it by being there, your mere presence and situation doesn't cause their action. It's still their action alone. It's like the asshole on my profile telling me to kill myself. I presented him a wall to write on and maybe even a motive to say "go kill yourself", but am I at fault for his hatred? I'd like to think I'm not.

>At school
>leave 5 dollars on my desk
>Get up to use the restroom
>come back, 5 dollars is gone

You would agree that I could have prevented that from happening by looking ahead and taking necessary steps (like putting it in my pocket), right?

That argument you used can apply to anything; You cannot hold responsibility of theft unless you are the thief. That is incorrect. I, a victim, could have help responsibility by simply putting the 5 bucks in my pocket.
User avatar #479 - touriopalfreyman (05/16/2014) [-]
You're not responsible for stealing your five dollars, no. You could have been wiser in not losing it, but you're not at fault, nor responsible for taking it.

Oh god... I had two ADHD kids in my cabin last time... Sounds like you have references... Plus they never have enough males. I got in with no experience what so ever first time got everything I wanted.
User avatar #79 to #78 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
ADHD kids are hard....but i seemed to keep them pretty calm so i think i could handle camp ok...
User avatar #80 to #79 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Calamity isn't too big, it's just the whole big picture of you being handed 10 kids with another guy and being told to have fun. You're a parent of ten for the week. No pressure, but the kids are so much fun. And teaching is so much fun. It's so much fun. Damn now I want to go back...
User avatar #81 to #80 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
lol now i want to try it. not sure how im gonna cope with it for a whole week but sounds fun
User avatar #82 to #81 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
I don't know how I did it the first time. I guess as long as you can get the kids to like you and be a friend and a leader and stay to the plan, it's picture perfect. Everything turns out great everytime. The staff is a lot of help and they are awsome. It's like a positive bomb that makes everyone super happy followed by a mob of crying kids who don't want to leave friday
User avatar #83 to #82 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
sounds great, just not the crying kids part. im gonna look into it tomorrow :DD
User avatar #84 to #83 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Alright. They are crying becuase they don't want to leave. I wont lie I cried last time. Total bro tears in my cabin. Their excuse was they "sweated out their eyes". It was awsome.

It'll start recruiting when the school year starts, mid september is when you want to check, and if you can't find a form you can contact them via email. Workshop will probably be late semptember and mid september is when you might want to look to see if they have their schedule all worked out and get a form. They should have it on their site at that time: You need to login to view this link

User avatar #61 to #60 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
my whole life. i dont really like it
User avatar #62 to #61 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
That kind of sucks. You learn a lot but socially it sucks. I've moved around a lot so I had to start over, and finally when I got situated at skyline. ( the kyron horman thing) I did great. Homeschooling though saved me from a tight spot.
User avatar #63 to #62 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
the school part is great and i agree the social part sucks. i've moved kinda alot also, and now i like about 10 miles from portland and i go there alot
User avatar #64 to #63 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Im in the skyline area. About 20 miles out. North West ish. I've went to skyline for 4 years which was a revelation for me and I am not going to move from lincoln. I have the means necessary to go there without my parents if need be. It's nice being anchored to a group for once. Homeschooled is without too much pressure but no pressure is boring.
User avatar #65 to #64 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
cool, the skyline area is about an hour from me i think or thats what i was told

User avatar #67 to #66 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
like 20 minutes south of portland. 15 if you drive fast
User avatar #68 to #67 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Oh that's out there. The farthest south I go is to MESD (multnomah educational service distrist) for ODS (outdoor school). ODS is awsome
User avatar #69 to #68 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
lol i've been to neither. i go to the middle of portland quite a bit
User avatar #70 to #69 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Oh ODS is a volunteer thing I do twice a year if I can. You go to a camp and teach 6th graders for a week and lead a cabin. It's being cut down quite a bit though, you might have heard about it on the news.
User avatar #71 to #70 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
cool! i might actually do that some time. and i havnt heard about it on the news or at least i dont remember lol how old do you have to be to volunteer?

User avatar #74 to #73 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Well maybe you will. Look for Forest or forrest. Forest is my ODS name, clever I know and Forrest is my real one. I'll likely be with a hot red head.
User avatar #75 to #74 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
haha alright, guy named forrest with a red headed gf. got it. im Alex
User avatar #76 to #75 - touriopalfreyman (08/01/2011) [-]
Already. Yeah for dates for when it starts you can google MESD ODS, there are fall and spring sessions. It's super fun, but be warned, it will be the hardest and best and possibly most emotional thing of your life. It's hardcore, and they changed it up a tad so I don't know how that will be, but get some sleep before you try even workshop.
User avatar #77 to #76 - rainbowslayer (08/01/2011) [-]
