And is that more practical then simply trying to reform our gun culture to that of Europe, where essentially the same thing has been accomplished where all citizens are on equal footing because nobody owns a gun? Being equally dangerous to one another is the only path to peace apparently. It's the cold war on a much smaller scale essentially. So if either way works I would still feel safer if nobody had nukes.

Anyway if this argument could be solved with one discussion I would have already happened and we wouldn't be having it right now. I'm sure your opinion isn't going to change and neither is mine, but I understand yours better now.

Europe doesn't have an easily accessible country south of it's borders where you can go and buy practically any gun you want.
I highly doubt that "nobody" owns a gun. I think they just make them harder to get, and limit what kinds. But crazies will still get a gun no matter how much you try to stop them. It's just less likely to happen in Europe because they're content and they don't have much shit to drive them crazy.
America on the other hand is dumb as fuck in a lot of its policies, and it drives people here insane.

There is nothing we can do, our culture simply needs to change where citizens don't feel that America is a gilded anarchistic war zone where you are going to get shot going out to get your mail in the morning. People don't feel secure anymore, and when that happens it raises the demand for guns, which in turn become more available to wack-jobs that then use those guns to go duck hunting in the food court of a shopping mall.

I read your article. 5242 people is kinda a low sample size to jump to a conclusion like that. Honestly, the high school I went to has more attending students than that every year.

In a town of 5242 people they had a crime rate of 4332 per 100,000 which is over 400 higher than the national average at that time.
The current population is 28,189 and the crime rate is 2027 per 100,000.
People commit crimes they think they can get away with. Why do they usually get away with it? Because people are defenseless. If you give everyone a way to protect themselves, AND TRAIN THEM, criminals are less likely to be successful.

Then what should we do?

I read an article yesterday about a town, in the US, where it was made mandatory that every resident own a gun (started 25 years ago). The article was celebrating the fact that since instituting that law, there had not been a single murder of a resident, whether they were the criminal or the victim, for 25 years.

I'm sure there are a lot more kids that can figure out how to turn a safety off then your scenario assumes. Introducing a gun into a classroom of children bring with it the chance of a student shooting another either on purpose or by accident. Gun's accidentally kill over 500 kids a year just from there being a gun in 1/3 of American homes. You put a gun in 100% of American classrooms, that number is going to unavoidably skyrocket. And the amount of kids that die in school shootings as it stands right now is no where near 500. So really you're not solving anything.
User avatar #446 - totallynotafurry (12/16/2012) [-]
Kids die from accidental shootings like that because the parents weren't responsible enough to put the gun somewhere the kid couldn't get to it.

What would you propose they do instead? Outlaw guns entirely so that nobody has them except the guys who wanna kill people? The only reason that works for Australia, is because people can't drive right across the border of their country, into another country, and buy the guns there.

User avatar #394 - totallynotafurry (12/16/2012) [-]
Make sure it's got the safety on.
A child isn't going to be traumatized by the simple sight of a gun. More likely, they're going to be intrigued by it. And most children in America wouldn't know how to hold, let alone operate, a weapon like that.

There's a lot of "what ifs" in this. How bout the one that matters: What if a gunman barges into the classroom and starts shooting at the children? Oh, that's right, the teacher who has been trained to use his/her weapon pulls it out and returns fire, HOPEFULLY eliminating the threat.

Yup! Love mlp (also Sir). Love Adventure time and anime (im not knowledgeable of all anime, but i enjoy a series every now and then). Im a nerd of all trades, master of none....although im fairly obsessed with music and video games more than my other fields.

Anime? Have you ever watched Kampfer? In essence, it's about a gender swapping super hero (blue haired guy). It's got plenty of sexy, funny, and action (and of course angst).
I'm more of a nerd when it comes to Computers. I really want to build my own computer sometime. I also love video games (though I can't afford to get many), but music isn't exactly my forte (granted I listen to a wide range of it).
I also play Magic: The Gathering.

Very nice.
I don't play much standard. I just play Magic with my friends usually.
Right now my two best decks are a Green/white Token deck, and a Blue black zombie deck. Both are Commander decks. My commander for the zombies is Grimgrin Corpse-Born, and the commander for the tokens is (a proxy of) Rhys, The Redeemed.
I've got plenty of other decks, but those are my best ones.

My go to deck is a lifegain deck with chalice of life...and circles of protection. My buddies and I always play multiplayer in which we share life total and a battlefield...but control remains independent. I just troll and lockdown their decks until my chalices kick in...my ajani pridemates are huge, ageless entity is giant...or my buddies actually pitched in :)

Anyways...time to crash. Had two finals today and worked a shift.

Not particularly, though i don't like Microsoft much either...but their products are cheaper. My last three computers i built from parts, used Microsoft as the OS (almost out of necessity). Oh, well, I met him on the gay board. Found out he lived a town away.
Took the bus up there a couple weekends ago, spent the night at his house.
We played Borderlands most of the night, then we decided it was time to get to it.
He gave me a bj (his first I'm guessing, but it was pretty good). Then after a couple minutes he got on his hands and knees, and I took his virginity while losing my own.
Granted, it was with a horrible condom.
