Well, now we´re talking. I hate if people judge stuff without giving it a try, first.

First: Those guys are called La Dispute, playing Melodic Hardcore.
Imo one of the best bands to contra your statement about "passionless one-dimensional caricatures". A core band, that imo, manages to showcase emotionality in their songs just as good or better than many metal bands.

Next: Dillinger Escape Plan. Jazzcore/Mathcore. Pretty good example vs. the thing about the simple structure and un-proffessional musicians. Those guys easily play in the same league as most real good metal musicians.

Which leads us to the next band. Protest the Hero, often called "Power Metal Core", beautiful melodies, often on the same level as progressive giants like Dream Theater, "actual singing", etc

Now to a band that´s influenced metal and other genres even despite being core.
Agnostic Front, Hardcore Punk Heroes.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocIT67BAL4k

Not to the part where -core is only influenced by punk and nothing else - and a disgrace to punk, nontheless: Deez Nuts and Rise of the Northstar, one being influenced heavily by HipHop, one being Influenced by Rap, Thrash Metal (The Solo is fucking thrashy, especially, somewhere around 3:40 in the second song) and Beatdown.

That´s it for now - if nothing else, you´ll at least see that core is incredible diverse, just like metal and thus not judgeable as a whole thing.

And you know exactly how many x-core bands?
You judge a whole genre on some few popular bands.
Everything you just said could be said about a shitload of metal-bands, too.
Growling and Screaming are "singing" - just different ways of singing, that are used in metal just as much as in the core-genres. Not to mention the core-bands that do their thing without screaming/growling. Just like with metal, core has incredible musicians and boring ones.
You´re judging a whole fucking genre with thousands of bands - even if your points are spot on on some bands, your opinion becomes 100% obsolete just by the fact that it´s impossible and utterly idiotic to try to judge a thousand-band-genre like everything in it is the same. Just as with metal which has classical metal, death and black, Power, etc, core has subgenres who sound completely different. Fuck you for trying to judge. Sorry, but I can´t say it any nicer.

Well fine, If I am talking out my ass, point me towards good core bands. I'm not trying to be a douche here, if I'm wrong I will say so, I won't just wait for a reply and say 5 minutes later that they suck without ever listening to them, I'll take an honest chance to make myself look like an ass.

And i do not look down upon Growled or screamed lyrics as a whole, some of my favorite bands (Obituary, Death, and Amon Amarth) growl and screech

It isn´t, tho.

Elitists are the worst thing to ever happen to metal - not to mention that you probably only ever heard 2 bands out of the core genres and are already crying about how gay the whole genre is because "muh trve metulz"
User avatar #9 - tonyxx (08/15/2014) [-]
It is, tho.

Core metal extrapolates everything about metal to proportions that make the whole endeavor idiotic. Vocals are unintelligible screaming, or unintelligible growling like they never learned to enunciate in English class. Bass and drum patterns are non existent, just let the bassist echo the guitarist , and as long as the drummer beats the shit out of his "dual uber über without a umlaut I might add turbo whatever the fuck makes it go fast" bass pedals and a bunch of cymbal choking, who cares? The guitarist seems to be always lazy, with monotonous riffs and guitar solos whose big selling point is "check it out guys, its really loud so that makes it metal!". To top it all off, the only thing it truly takes influence from is punk, which is not an insult to punk, but an insult to metalcore's imagination. Where is the influence from classical? the blues or the R&B? Nowhere! Metalcore wants nothing more than be a passionless, one-dimensional caricature.
