Certainly not breaking my heart, alas, I never said that it did not happen with plate armor, but the way you put it, (or atleast how I read it). Was that if you wore chainmail you'd survive a blow to the chest, which is unlikely, cause if the blow could bent the steel of a plate armor, it would MOST LIKELY also crush or damage your ribcage so much you'd die.

And the Plate wearing knights also wore stuffin' beneath their armor...

No, because if you got hit in the chest with a heavy weapon and was wearing chainmail you'd get your rib cage crushed...

I hate to break your heart, but the same thing will happen with plate, only difference is that the plate will stay pressed in your chest after impact. Also, the gambeson worn under the armor will soften the blow (albeit not a lot)
