I love Slipknot, don't get me wrong, but Mick's playing is just fast. Sure he's better than some, but he isn't amazing. If you compare him and James, he looks like he just learned to play. And I'm not even considering other bands.

Actually, James only recently actually learned how to solo, he said it himself a couple of times (search on YouTube Dead Memories guitar or something, he struggles to remember his parts on the guitar)

Mick however was a guitar teacher before playing for bands. All in all, I'm pretty sure he's the one who taught James Root a thing or two (I also recall Jim being rather nervous when recording IOWA because he had to meet certain expectations -he didn't write anything for the Self-Titled album-)

Mick reminds me of James Hetfield. Blazing riffs with mechanical precision and accuracy.
