Opera has a 3-5% market share in a world where different versions of Internet Explorer are used for over half of our internet usage. Firefox and Chrome are both at 11-12%.

wide swords suck they're for slow hard attacks that are easy to dodge.

Wide swords are awesome because they DON'T BREAK WHEN YOU HIT STUFF. Armor is like, strong and shit.
User avatar
#58 - TheFixer (07/23/2014) [-]
depends on what its made of and how it was made. if the core is hard steel it will break if its more of a softer steel it wont. harder steel on the cutting edge and a softer core yields a better sword that can take some good hits while dishing out good hits.
#59 - preacherQ (07/23/2014) [-]
No bro. You are speaking of craftsmanship. That was not the discussion. A well made thin sword is not more durable than a well made greatsword. Toughness being directly proportional to the cross sectional area and all that.

What the fuck did you just do with that sword!?

No wonder it fucking broke, you're not fucking using it right. No one in their right mind would ever use a katana to smash against another sword, it would notch, like it did right fucking there. It's designed for quick motions that end a fight quickly, not fancy fencing type bullshit with parries and blocks.

Meh, it was designed for cutting down unarmored peasants. This was just the only GIF I had for thick sword being tougher than thin. Why, do you have a better one?
User avatar
#79 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2014) [-]
My bad, I can see what you're talking about now. Yeah, a katana is going to be fucking destroyed if you're trying to break it. A Scimitar? Not so much.

#78 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2014) [-]
No. It's specifically the comparison that is the issue. A thick, heavy sword is not going to be useful against a military that typically wore lighter armor, that can move easily. Light swords like the Katana are designed to be quick. Hell, there are is even a video of a trained swordsman cutting through and redirecting a BB pellet using this kind of sword. I challenge you to do that with your Scimitar or Zweihander.

Japanese military doctrine is obsessed with speed. Whether it's building a sword, a spear, or a Zero Fighter.
#80 - preacherQ (07/23/2014) [-]
Lol. No dude, katana aren't light. They only weighed about 20% less than a classical longsword. (classical, 2 handed medival, not one handed Elder Scrolls impersonator) I meant more that they were curved. Sure, they moved fairly quick because of how they were held/balanced. And you know what a quick, curved weapon is good for? Cutting down unarmored peasants. See if you can find a video of a dude trying to slash through even chainmail with a katana. Its hilarious.

tldr: Shield + armor = TearsofWeeabooBlood

Also, what? Dude, a scimitar has the advantage of it actually IS a light sword, it could totally cut a BB. Also, being arabic, they were made of much better steel than the katana. Kept a sharper edge and whatnot.

#81 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2014) [-]
That's what I meant. There's really a very, very thin line between unarmored peasant and Ashigaru soldier (peasant soldiers as opposed to the professional samurai). That's what I meant by "lightly armored".

You are correct
