Sort of, but probably not really any more than African Americans. Phenotypic testing shows most African-Americans to be around 20-30% European in their ancestry. Not sure on the percentages for Latinos, though I imagine there is much greater variability from region to region. Almost all North and South Americans with the exception of recent immigrants have a great deal of racial mixing in them whether or not they realize it. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't latinos mostly from spanish and portuguese decent? And therefore European?
#66 - kingpongthedon (06/27/2014) [-]
Latinos are mostly an amalgamation of African, European (yes, primarily Spanish and Portuguese, but it can vary greatly from region to region), and American Indian ancestry. For the most part, Spanish and Portuguese didn't colonize like the French and English. They only brought a handful of their own to run things and left the rest to the Native Americans and African slaves. As a result, there weren't enough Spaniards for Latinos to be considered European. And even if there were, Spain is another place where there is a lot of mixing (African-European crossroads with heavy influence from Moorish invaders) so while Spain is a part of Europe, its inhabitants are not exactly blue-eyed blondes.

TLDR: Yeah, there's a lot of European influence in Latinos, but they are far from European.

That was the dumbest thing I've read today. It's from a mutated MC1R gene which mutated the same way any other change in our gene pool does (from radiation ect.).

I think what he's trying to say is that red-hair was introduced into Homo Sapiens sapiens by interbreeding with neanderthals, which I've also heard. I doubt he was trying to say that the mutation occurred as a result of some weird interaction with caveman jizz.

Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?

I see your point, however I'd like to point out that obesity is not anywhere NEAR the 'biggest' (no pun intended) cost to the healthcare system. And if he were truly worried about health care costs he would address the serious lack of collective bargaining power we have.

But, no, it's not just 'serious' medical issues that cause it. Things like Depression would all but sap ones ability to lose weight. While they PHYSICALLY could lose weight, mentally they couldn't bring themselves to get out of bed to try. And there are bodies that, sometimes, just cling to every calorie possible, like those of people who've near starved to death. Their bodies enter 'survival' mode and cling to every calorie even after they've left the danger zone.

There are SO many more points I could make, but it's also been proven through brain scans that people react to the high salt-sugar-fat foods that companies put out (intentionally with this ratio to make it this way) the same way that drug addicts react to drugs. Companies use a special type of salt, even, to near addict people to their foods. By showing pictures of these foods the brain lit up in a craving the same way former addicts did when showing images of drugs. The food we eat has been made to make us come back for more. Nearly everything processed has been set up this way. Which is why you can't just eat one potato chip. There was a video I could link you, if interested.

User avatar #70 - comicexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Not at all. Stupidity is immaturity, which we'll outgrow in time. The second thing we'll do is find a way to get to an inhabitable planet, and considering our immortality, that shouldn't be too difficult. We'll expand across the universe, populating it as it should be.
User avatar #208 - newforomador (06/18/2014) [-]
But would it be immortality as in we can't die at all, or as in we're ageless and can still die from injuries, disease, and all other things like that. Unless it was an immortality that put our mind into the body of an android then the latter is more likely. So we wouldn't have to worry about how long it would take to get to another planet except maybe for insanity but instead about sustaining our lives while we are going there.

According to this - one of the last chapters of the Quran - the true believer "strives and fights with their wealth and persons" while the hypocrites are those who "sit at home," refusing to join the jihad against unbelievers in foreign lands.

In truth, Muhammad organized 65 military campaigns in the last ten years of his life and personally led 27 of them. The more power that he attained, the smaller the excuse needed to go to battle, until finally he began attacking tribes merely because they were not yet part of his growing empire.

After Muhammad’s death, his successor immediately went to war with former allied tribes which wanted to go their own way. Abu Bakr called them 'apostates' and slaughtered anyone who did not want to remain Muslim. Eventually, he was successful in holding the empire together through blood and violence.

Muslim (19:4294) - "When you meet your enemies who are polytheists [Christians], invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them ... If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them"

Bukhari (53:392) - While we were in the Mosque, the Prophet came out and said, "Let us go to the Jews." We went out till we reached Bait-ul-Midras. He said to them, "If you embrace Islam, you will be safe. You should know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to expel you from this land. So, if anyone amongst you owns some property, he is permitted to sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle."

Qur'an (4:59) - "O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority from among you..."

Qur'an (3:28) - "Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself; for the final goal is to Allah."

Qur'an (19:64) - "And we do not descend but by the command of your Lord; to Him belongs whatever is before us and whatever is behind us and whatever is between these, and your Lord is not forgetful."

Qur'an (18:26) - "[Allah] maketh none to share in his government."

Second of all: Just because you recite a part of the quran doesn't mean that all or even most muslims follow that believe. Ever heard of a christian who refused to eat sea food or talk with a woman on her period for religious reasons? No me neither. Still both those things are outlawed in the bible. Muslim terrorists, who supposedly are the most religious muslims around, partake in suicide bombings. Suicide is seen as a major offense against god in het quran. So this has very little to do with wether or not something appears in a religious text or not.

To be fair English was influenced by the French language brought over by the Norman conquerors in 1066.

But you are right; so this would've been a better chart for them to use.
User avatar #214 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Ehh the chart is ok , could be more detailed and needs some fixes.
"old norse" for example is not a thing - its called "Anglo"
Gothic is the forerunner to Teutonic (which isnt even included) which became the basis for German together with Saxon as well as a major influence from Anglo.
Prussian was a Germanic language as well , that influenced Teutonic quite a bit.
User avatar #216 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Also in the case of Spanish , while they do indeed speak a form of Latin , their linguistic origin too lies with the Germanic tribes , since todays inhabitants of Iberia are Visigoths
User avatar #223 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Norse

Actually, I believe that 'Prussian' on this chart refers to the language spoken by the original Prussians, since the Germanic Prussians just spoke German.

As for Spanish, the chart is really just simplified and it can't really show things like that. It's why English is with the Germanic languages even though it was influenced by the French spoken by the Normans.

User avatar #226 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Also , as far as I am concerned , I stand by my point I made earlier regarding Anglo.
The wikipedia article dates "old norse" to a language from High-medieval times and actually more old danish than "norse"
Anglo is their root language dating back to the 5th century in Early-medieval times , prior to the hunnic invasion.
User avatar #228 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
What language are you talking about though? When I do a Google search for 'Anglo language' absolutely nothing comes up with that name. I get Anglo-Norman language, Anglo-Frisian languages, and even Anglo-Saxon language, but nothing that's just 'Anglo'.
User avatar #230 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
It may be a translation problem , seeing as English loves naming shit after something entirely unrelated.
User avatar #232 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
Are you sure that you're not talking about Proto-Norse? Because that's the only language I can find that fits your description.
User avatar #235 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
yep - it was a translation problem after all.
See we call "ancient nordic" - "ancient english (or anglo)" in german
User avatar #236 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
Huh, that's interesting. Glad it's sorted out.
User avatar #234 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Maybe , lets see what wikipedia has to say
User avatar #225 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Alright , and yes I did actually mean the Original Prussians who in German are called Pruss to distinguish them from the country Prussia.

They were a Germanic tribe in North-eastern Poland around the now Russian held Oblast Kaliningrad - the exact same place where the Teutons came from.
The Pruss were craftsmen and traders with basic knowledge of sailing and copper smelting.
User avatar #227 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
The Old Prussians were a Baltic Tribe, more closely related to the Lithuanians then they were to any Germanic peoples. It wasn't until that they were conquered by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century that the region started to speak a Germanic language.
User avatar #229 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
The origin of the Germanic tribes lies in sweden , on a small island called Gothland , it's not unlikely that the a lot of baltic people were Germanic.
While that is just a speculation , in my history books , Pruss are clearly marked as germanic.
User avatar #231 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
Then your history books are wrong. Because every single bit of info I can find on the people that lived in Prussia prior to the area's Germanification says that they were Baltic.
User avatar #233 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
East-prussia mind you.

The country Prussia came from the east of todays Germany which is more west.
User avatar #237 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
That entire region was populated by Baltic peoples though. The Prussians, the Galindians, the Yotvingians, the Skalvians. All of them lived in that region, and all of them were Baltic.
User avatar #238 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
I got that already after looking up what you said.
What I said was regarding Germanification and name of the Area.
User avatar #239 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
Wait, what? Now I'm not entirely certain where exactly we stand on the issue. I thought you were still saying that the Old Prussians were Germanic.
User avatar #240 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
The issue is just the name of the Area the ancient Prussians inhabited.
I wouldn't consider it "prussia" because it wasn't a country , and because said country with that name called that area East-Prussia.
User avatar #241 - thesovereigngrave (06/18/2014) [-]
Ah, gotcha. So it's just a translation issue again, because in English the original Baltic people are called (Old) Prussians, and thus the region they inhabited was Prussia. Though from looking at maps it looks like the region of East Prussia was similar to the region that was part of the Duchy of Prussia.
User avatar #242 - internetexplain (06/18/2014) [-]
Calling a Germanic tribe by the entirety of them is not Normal , but on Translation it is.

Translation : not even once.

before any of gets confused again - this is referring to Hellenic and Romanic languages as well as English , calling Teutons Germans.
User avatar #128 - toensix (06/18/2014) [-]
