The start of a day begins at 00:00. Besides, they didn't even have a specific year until hundreds of years after Christ and decided that they'll use the year that he was born as the first year, but not counting the actual year he was born, so Jesus turned one on year 1 making one year in between BC and AD, which I call year 0. And you don't turn one until you live a full year. So the start of the new millennium would be after 1000 years had passed since the birth of Christ, and since no one actually knows the specific date, they just count the whole year 1000 as being one thousand years since the birth of Jesus.

There is no Year 0. After 1BC comes directly 1AD. So the millernium began on 1st January 1AD and the next 1st January 1001 and this millenium 1st january 2001

Something I forgot to mention is that the year 1 BC is counted as the same as the year 0, but that is just a rule that basically states that they ignore the year 0, but astronomically and mathematically that is incorrect. But, in the end, all it is is a bunch of faffing about because we don't actually know if there was a year between them because things were different back then and didn't count it the same way that people do now, and a whole lot of the rest is lost in time and translation.
