What in Davy Jones' locker did ye just bark at me, ye scurvy bilgerat? I'll have ye know I be the meanest cutthroat on the seven seas, and I've led numerous raids on fishing villages, and raped over 300 wenches. I be trained in hit-and-run pillaging and be the deadliest with a pistol of all the captains on the high seas. Ye be nothing to me but another source o' swag. I'll have yer guts for garters and keel haul ye like never been done before, hear me true. You think ye can hide behind your newfangled computing device? Think twice on that, scallywag. As we parley I be contacting my secret network o' pirates across the sea and yer port is being tracked right now so ye better prepare for the typhoon, weevil. The kind o' monsoon that'll wipe ye off the map. You're sharkbait, fool. I can sail anywhere, in any waters, and can kill ye in o'er seven hundred ways, and that be just with me hook and fist. Not only do I be top o' the line with a cutlass, but I have an entire pirate fleet at my beck and call and I'll damned sure use it all to wipe yer arse off o' the world, ye dog. If only ye had had the foresight to know what devilish wrath your jibe was about to incur, ye might have belayed the comment. But ye couldn't, ye didn't, and now ye'll pay the ultimate toll, you buffoon. I'll shit fury all over ye and ye'll drown in the depths o' it. You're fish food now.

They could have won, but they decided "nah, let's allow them to enter our land and kill anyone who follows a religion they don't agree on". Let's also remember that Nord culture promotes battle-hunger and honor, meaning they'd prefer to fight 'till they drop.

There's also the fact that an alliance with Hammerfell would screw those guys over. But they decided to run away. More information here.

What? Are you serious? It's called the "Stormcloak bible" to make people see the stormcloak's point of view. And it's pretty much based on facts.
#49 - mendelevium (12/20/2014) [-]
So because a bunch of milk drinkers got fucked by high elves, Skyrim must suffer?

A province fighting for its freedom from a weak and brutal government hell bent on forcing religious belief on people living in a hard land.

Even as half a nation the Stormcloaks needed only the help of one man to destroy the second most powerful army in all of Nirn. Your empire is armless and dying, lost in faith and born in their riches, so fearful of death they leave their own honor at their mothers teat so they can bend the knee to a race of slavers and murderers.

Go on then and fight for your false king, but as you do I'll fight for the side who holds their values true and protects the rights of its people.

Skyrim belongs to the Nords. Not a bunch of knee bending cowards.
User avatar
#104 - blackrookfiend (12/20/2014) [-]
At the end of the day, if the Stormcloaks win, Nirn will become undone.

Not to mention that as you should well know, Ulfric was BROKEN by the Aldmeri Dominion. He was their puppet. The civil war is a means to the Dominion's Ends.

So what do you say now, Stormcloak? Do you still follow your pawn of a Jarl knowing full well he was used and tampered with by the very elves you fault the Sovereign Empire for making peace with so as to work against them?
User avatar
#117 - psychosamurai (12/20/2014) [-]
How about the fact that they wanted him to start the war? Not win the war?

Funny how you Imperials go on and on about how Ulfric is an "asset" and how much of a tool he is, while preaching that it's the Empire's effort that the Thalmor are not in Skyrim, while not bothering to look behind them to see the exact Thalmor they're talking about abusing followers of mighty Talos.

What do you say, Imperial? What say you in defence of your milk-drinking emperor, who gave up all of Skyrim at the tip of a Altmer blade? What say you to attack the true sons and daughters of Skyrim, who detach themselves from your pathethic little throne in order to put an end to the fight you ran away from?

He fought in the war yes, but by the side of Imperials in the hope they could win the war.

When the empire coward and cried and begged for mercy, ulfric held a sword in hand and to this day we fight the thalmor.

You the true high king a coward yet your whole nation huddles in fear, while we still fight.
User avatar
#109 - blackrookfiend (12/20/2014) [-]
Talos knew when to fight and when not to fight. He was a shrewd tactician. We should do the same, yet instead of being able to enact our vengeance, we are stuck coddling a child that will not bow it's head unless it gets the entire bowl of food, in these tough times. All of Tamriel feels the shockwave of the Empire's faltering stance, not just Skyrim. It's merely a difference of knowing that's it's time to grow up and learn that the world doesn't rely on who can swing a sword 100% of the time, and that this is not the time for it.
#66 - pparreira (12/20/2014) [-]

User avatar
#90 - Zaxplab (12/20/2014) [-]
The Redguards did that same thing. It got to the point where THEY were able to be the aggressors. They were sending men to skyrim to look for traitors who helped the thalmor

Ever hear of Japanese internment?
In times of war the people may not trust the enemy, even the enemy's skin.
While it is not right, I can see that, it is needed to keep the peace and help the spirits of the Nords.
A time will come when Elv and Man stand hand in hand, but first the Nords must win.
User avatar
#110 - blackrookfiend (12/20/2014) [-]
Yeah. No. Dark Elves don't even share the same landmass as the High Elves and yet the STORMCLOAKS(not anyone else) treats them like absolute manure.

Not to mention that in the first place, the Stormcloaks are fighting on a very self-centered and childish front, acting out against a rule when a threat looms that they all seem to be entirely ignorant of.

"They"? As in, all of the stormcloaks? No. They are xenophobic, and it's completely understandable. Just because you're uncomfortable when a bunch of people from other countries start living next to you, it doesn't means you're racist. Naturally, it's going to change over time.

The Gray Quarter, Argonians aren't allowed within city walls (any that do live there live outside in the docks and in the Argonian Assembage). Both of these things were ordered by Ulfric.

Any elf living is ostracized by many citizens in the city of Windhelm and is accused of helping the Imperials with no proof. There's a scripted event to show you this when you first enter the city.
User avatar
#60 - psychosamurai (12/20/2014) [-]
The Gray Quarter is for elves that bitch and moan about their status instead of working hard. There are other elves in Windhelm that are living just fine, such as the one that sells you horses. Even one of them is living fine and dandy, and says the Dark Elves complain too much instead of earning the Nord's respect.

Argonians aren't allowed in Windhelm because they have a grudge with the Dunmer. Even if you finish the war for the Empire, the new Jarl says to block their entrace "for their own good".

And, there are exactly TWO people that insult the Dunmer when you enter the Hold. One is a drunk and the another is a beggar. None of them are stomcloaks themselves. Do they represent the entire freaking population that lives there? No.

I can respect an Imperial Soldier, they can chose not to be a Stormcloak for a number of reasons (They prefer Romans, the armor is fancier, they might have more strategy, etc), but I'm getting tired of hearing "racists" every single freaking time.
User avatar
#83 - greyhoundfd (12/20/2014) [-]
It's not only the drunkard and the beggar though. You hear from one guy (I can't remember his name) that Ulfric also ignores any Kahjiit or other non-human trading caravans that get attacked by bandits outside the city, but if a human is attacked and reports it, guards and stormcloaks get diverted to deal with the problem.

Brunwulf Free-Winter. He's the replacement Jarl of Windhelm if you side with the Empire. Needless to say, it's hard to truly believe him. Even if you do, it's possible that Ulfric helps Nords more often because nords are the most common folk in Skyrim. I believe Ufric went with "the needs of the many" mentality on this one, but I admit it's hard to tell since the only source of information we have is Brunwulf, instead of something you can see for yourself.
User avatar

Either way, I'm not going to follow a man who's so bad at keeping his city secure that there is a bandit encampment two minutes from the outer gates

"Damn elves. I suppose you can't inform them I have bigger problems at hand? Such as all of Skyrim?"

-Ulfric, during one of the random dialogues triggered sometimes when you enter the Palace of Kings

This quote sums up pretty much most complaints about Ulfric. He's a Jarl, yes, but he also needs to be focused on the war. When it's over, I have no doubt he'll get his shit together.

I also understand the appeal of the empire. Logistically it would make more sense to use the empire. But there's more to the whole conflict than just politics, and you're dismissing the Dragonborn as a variable.

History lesson: The Akaviri (some hardass dragon-slayers who don't afraid of anything) got almost entirely wiped out by a moderate force of Elves. Nothing flashy. The Empire stepped in, kicked a little but, and got decimated ("Decimated" comes from the number ten, thus "deci-". One-tenth of a force destroyed). The Elves would have won, if the Emperor hadn't called for peace. The Elves saw the advantage of having mortals for allies, and formed the White-Gold Concordat. This would allow the Elves to scour the land of the Pillars of Reality, destroy them, and bring an end to Mundus. The Elves win every time.
Long live the Emperor in His infinite wisdom!
