karvarausku (12/26/2015) [-] **karvarausku used "*roll picture*"** **karvarausku rolled image** Originally pagan holiday, but Christians put theirs over it to simplify things. Jesus didn't born in 24th and there are bunch of other sons of gods and so on that has been told to be born on that date so it was just easier for them to put their holiday over to another. So yeah. Christmas is still pretty christmas without baby jesus in it. #11 -
mychaelmoar (12/26/2015) [-] Maintaining the date made it easier for recent converts, as it is obviously a celebration of an approximate date, but even then the only remotely pagan tradition that is maintained within Christmas is the evergreen tree, which has its own Christian history as well - because wowee, a lot of people have used the same symbolism across different backgrounds for similar messages (e.g. renewal of life, either from Spring or from Christ). www.religioustolerance.org/xmas_tree.htm winter solstice in december 21st, christians have no fucking clue what day/month/year jesus was born so they picked december 24th just to take attention away from the pagans then backtracked and said easter was when jesus was conceived aka roughly 9 months before december, just to take attention away from the spring solstice Yeah, I said that. It made it easier to remember, particularly as more pagans became Christians. sad how people cant or just wont see christianity as the intolerant dominating power it is, trying to wipe out other faiths Sad how people can't or just won't see Islam as the intolerant dominating power it is, trying to wipe out other faiths. Meanwhile, Christianity calls for peaceful proselytizing. I'm not saying that's how it has always occurred, but it's how the Bible calls for it. Get outta here with all your fallacious nonsense. christianity was the main fascist faith converting people with violence and only changed to new testament peaceful after it had dug in as the main religion now islam is making its move The point is that theologically, it wasn't meant to be spread by force. Obviously it was at a point in history, but that doesn't change the core of what it is, whereas many, many other religions propagate by violence at their core. Islam has been spread solely by the sword since its origin, which was founded in bloodshed. Beyond that, pantheons of the archaic and pagan always entailed multiple gods of chaos, war, and destruction, as those were considered part of humanity - which the gods were ultimately a representation of because most were often people who had simply ascended in one way or another. Christianity is one of the few religions that exists pointing towards humanity being fallen and separated from perfection at birth, and the only one that states that man cannot earn his way to that perfection by his own works, but only by perfection reaching out. At any rate, I don't think you understand fascism, because it's the furthest from it, as Christians are called by the texts to endure suffering, turn the other cheek, and submit to whatever state in which they reside, recognizing that it is not the ultimate authority in the end of everything, whereas fascism requires is a system of government that seeks to benefit itself. In history, men have utilized the church as an excuse to propagate their own power, but the Christian faith as prescribed by the Bible never calls for this. If anything, this further highlights the fallen nature of man as described in scripture in that there are those who will use everything good and bad to further their own goals, which establishes the necessity for salvation due to the failure of man. original religions werent meant to be spread by force, i agree... the older religions like the norse/gree/egyptian gods may have had a few dedicated to war but mostly for all aspects of life, like gods for farming, healing, health, family, etc the abrahamic religions, be they judaism, islam, christianity, they came from the common core and each has at its heart a 'convert or fuck you' element islam has gone to open war, christianity has gone to open war, and judaism has been mostly sneaky manipulation catholicism also picked up on the violent nature of it all and has blood on its hands too an lets see how things have ended up... christianity basically owns the world.... catholicism and judaism have their own countries in vatican and israel, islam has been the short bus kid of the group, being aggressive but slow to get anywhere.... but it is now making progress getting somewhere espcially with the rise of the fake 'war on terror' and 'refugee crisis' allowing them to spread their people all over the place and set up shop in other peoples countries #10 -
anon (12/26/2015) [-] Pagan is the shittiest term You could mean anything It could be fucking Hinduism or whatever you call the Aztec mythology. Fuck that term. Christmas is very much Christian, even if they hijacked the date. Some traditions may remain, however. That would have been me 20-some years ago. Although my mother educated me enough not to look like am ignorant scoundrel, I was still very much a heathen child. Am now very religious Catholic. some portion of it, surely. The factuality of the historical figure of Jesus Christ is beyond contention though, unless you are listening to psyops like Zeitgeist. | ||
