It started out just being the crazy that maintained rules 34, 63, and 57 of the internet, but then it got out of had after the pirate zombies invaded Yorkshire and ate all the flowers. It destroyed the local economy and they had to switch to producing cocaine in mass quantities and shipping it to forum kim jongs everywhere via owls just to stay afloat.

Or maybe, just maybe (and this goes for any music someone likes, I never bashed JB even if I hate his music) it is catchy and people listen to it because they like it.
#19 - N. Korean citizen (11/25/2012) [-]
There's so much more to music than being catchy.. My god, will people never understand that?
User avatar #21 - reaperssprint (11/25/2012) [-]
Ok, as a musician I will tell you this. It depends on what you are listening for. If I want a song with meaning and feeling, I will go through my library with hundreds of them and pick one. If I want something that I can simply listen to with a great sound and that gets stuck in my head then I will look up something for that.

A song can have the most meaningful lyrics you have ever heard, but have absolutely no sound quality to it, nobody will listen. My favorite band is Streetlight Manifesto because they have great lyrics and a very catchy sound. I also listen to classical and orchestral music because of the emotion, still catchy though.

Lesson here is everyone has a different taste in music as well as their own reasons for listening to music. So stop trying to be high and mighty thinking you have a deep reason for listening to music that everyone else needs to abide by.

Oh? And what do you believe should be the number one video on Youtube?
User avatar #14 - thefunnynorwegian (11/25/2012) [-]
SOmething funny, or at least worth a while...
User avatar #15 - Lentus (11/25/2012) [-]
That's all a matter of perspective. What one person sees as worthwhile won't be to someone else.
User avatar #16 - thefunnynorwegian (11/25/2012) [-]
Of course, and thats also a reason why I can't name a video I think actually desreves to be the number one seen video on youtube, but for my part Gangnam style ain't one of those. And to be honest as soon as this damn fad is over Justin Bieber's bab will probably take the lead again.

Also don't really care what video is most watched it dosn't really affect me (just that I have to hear it from sheep for some days/week)
User avatar #17 - Lentus (11/25/2012) [-]
All Youtube is fads. That's what Youtube is; it's more sought out for entertainment. Baby and Gangnam Style are what keep people entertained the most. Educational videos don't get a lot of views unless it's on a controversial topic, and even then it's only to argue with people in the comments. We are more technologically advanced, but I believe we are much dumber than we were 100 years ago. Today's world puts more emphasis on entertainment then education (which I'm okay with, since I'm trying to be an actor). We'd rather enjoy ourselves than better ourselves. Mindless self indulgence.
User avatar #36 - thefunnynorwegian (11/25/2012) [-]
That's really true, but I don't get how people are so hung up on this fad that they (like OP) finds this a victory. I feel that this was taking it a bit far. Gangnam style along with so many other songs, and let's not forget about videos at all, I don't really see/feel why gets all this commotion. Especially when their just fads.

But as you said, that's what we like, or at least are somewhat "supposed" to.
But just a question: What would say deserves to be the most watched video? And would youa ctually like it being that? (Thinking of how youth manage to basically overusee verything)
User avatar #37 - Lentus (11/25/2012) [-]
That depends on its power, so to speak. If it's liked enough, it no longer becomes a fad. It turns into part of the pop culture. Like Ponies, or Doritos Locos Tacos!
#38 - thefunnynorwegian (11/26/2012) [-]
So.. let's say the "train simulator bitch" video on youtube. It's somewhat popular and has a lot of likes. (of course your examples are in bigger scales) But it still ain't a port of pop culture and if you see/hear the video enough you will grow tired of it. And therefore not play it anymore.

This was what I expected, and somewhat hope, was going to happen to gangnam style.

And I still kinda do, I feel like gangnam style is just a huge fad that went to far and got grip of too many too hard.

I don't really care that gangnam style "came" from youtube, that's irrelevant really. But I'm sick and tired of it's fans since it for me, and many other, has gone too far.

They have to remember that it's just a song/video don't take it so seriously...

Anyways good day(s) I think we'll stop this here. But thanks for the better insight, and letting me getting a wider view of this case.

And good luck on your carrier.

1. Don't assume what arguments I plan on using, it's unbecoming of you.
2. Two officials stated that the intended target was Ibrahim al-Banna, the supposed senior operative in the Arabian Peninsula.
Seems like you might've benefited from some research yourself. I'll concede that some unmentioned officials tried to pawn him off as in his mid 20's, but if you want to sit there and claim it was a deliberate strike, go ahead. I'll just sit here without a tin foil hat.
