Congrats buddy, pretty much the same for me except it's only been about 6 weeks. Diet is going to be the biggest struggle for me, I just genuinely have no idea what to eat except for a few things but I've definitely been making small steps towards a bigger goal. Ain't nobody stoppin' us but ourselves friend

I have been dieting longer than I've been working out and you have to do both to really achieve anything. Just eat anything that is not calorie dense, I still eat at del taco but I only get light food. Also if you have a sweet tooth like me just eat fruit whenever you crave something sugary, it works wonders. Only drink water as well not even Oj or other juices. chances are they have the same amount of calories and sugar in them that soda does.

Because that leaves them with no excuse. My brother wrecked his ankle last year, has 6 permanent pins through his leg, one that was removed and a plate of metal. His recovery? Not eating as much as he did when fully mobile and swimming at least 2 times a week. He didn't gain more than 10lb while he was on crutches.

Bad knees is a weak excuse too, when I was pregnant I had bad knees and hips, and swimming was the best thing ever.

Worst shit i've seen on FJ
1) A Giant Weta bug eating a man's finger. Alive. He was letting it happen. His arm was tourniqueted.
2) Man on trampoline snaps ankle in two. soccer player clutching broken shin in two. Both are second place.
3) Leg press girl's hyperextended legs.

I was 260 at 5'10 so... yea. I got a bit ways to go In all fairness, I used to play football in my younger days and did a lot of weight lifting, so I have plenty of muscle underneath all... this.
User avatar #53 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
Powerlifter here, what kinda working out do you do? cardio?
User avatar #54 - bulwark (04/26/2015) [-]
Well after extensive research I came to the conclusion that based on my bodytype and all, I should do a little bit of cardio and then lots of weight lifting to get the best results. Now thing is, I can't really go to a gym, so I gotta do what I can at home, with the weights I have here. But they really aren't all that heavy in the long run.

I need to get some heavier plates, since I plan on doing that whole "If you can do more than 8 reps, it's too light, more weight"
User avatar #56 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
yeah, buddy that's powerlifting, the best kind. I hope I don't sound preachy but when you begin serious powerlifting and begin straining your body extensively you should have a break day and do it every other day for the best results otherwise you'll be shreking your body rather than building it up. Good on you for trying the hard way though, it pays off. I've been doing it for about 2 years, every other day myself.
User avatar #57 - bulwark (04/26/2015) [-]
Hah nothing preachy about giving tips. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

So far what I am doing, since I don't want to skip leg days, is I do leg day - arm day - rest day - leg day - arm day - rest day and so on. Atleast untill I feel that I can manage doing legs and arms the same day, because as it is now, I am almost completely immobile after leg days.
User avatar #58 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
That's completely fine my friend, I do full days every other day and the way you're going about it is definitely the more progressive way, people tend to go into it hardcore and burn themselves out or hurt themselves after smashing weights and working out for weeks straight. My brother in law did the same thing, dude would do like 500 push ups in a day every day for like a month then ended up damaging his forearms to the point where he had to get physio and stop working out for 3 months. Breaks day on invaluable, especially when you get to weights that put strain on your bones.

I also wanna say that powerlifting when you're fatter is the best thing, powerlifting is for the raw power, not the flat stomach, you'll definitely form a nice bulky physique (it's how I started out and now I weight 69kg I'm a short dude and can lift 30kg dumbbells)
User avatar #59 - bulwark (04/26/2015) [-]
Yea I don't want to end up damaging myself. And I am glad that powerlifting is the right way to a more bulkier physique. My goal is to get the same build as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. I fucking love his huge torso, but without a ripped six pack. Just a nice wide back and some serious arms and chest. That's my definite goal.

Thing is, one of the primary reasons I want to get fit and buffer, is that I am pursueing a career as an actor and... let's just say that fat people don't have it easy there. They're only good for certain roles, atleast if you ask the casters.

anyways, that's beside the point.
User avatar #61 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
Powerlifting is the way to a super strong core (really a super strong everything), you'll have some real raw power there, your stomach will most likely take on a slightly fatty look but it'll be like concrete, if someone punched a powerlifter in the gut they'd break their wrist for sure. The people you see with the V stomachs and slimmer sides are bodybuilders, they go more for looks rather than functionality, that's not to say they're strong but they're nowhere near the monsters that powerlifters and strongmen are.

I'm sure you'd be able to fill some good roles with that kinda muscle and I can quite believe it, fat people in cinema usually take on the comedic relief roles and I can't imagine that being great for self esteem a whole bunch of the time. I'd say just take it gradually as you are, you've actually looked shit up and bothered to listen to advice which is a far stride over most people i've spoken to, some people have even added me on steam and shit specifically for it then completely ignored anything I or other lifters have tried to tell them.

I would suggest variation too, like different variations of the same exercise with powerlifting so you hit all around the places you want to get and not just specific parts, it'll give you an overall bulkier look and far more functionality. I actually lift mainly because it's a hobby and I genuinely enjoy it, I think i'd have quit by now if I didn't. I will say though, your real test will come in a few months, when it gets mundane, because it will, it does for everyone that works out a lot, you'll almost try to excuse working out but you're gonna need to slap yourself out of it and go wreck those weights. You may find yourself being a little conceited, looking into mirrors now and then or flexing at one rarely but in reality that's a pretty damn good thing to do, it's gonna remind you why you're doing this and show you what you've achieved, I think all kinds of lifters need to be a little vain when it comes to admiring their hard work.

Sorry for the novels i'm writing, I can talk for days on the subject.
User avatar #63 - bulwark (04/26/2015) [-]
Yea I've never much liked those low fat v-cut bodybuilder looks. it's too... eck. they look flimsy, ya know?

In regards to the whole fat comic guy roles. it's sort of true. I wouldn't say that it hits you that hard in the self-esteem department, atleast not with me, since I've always enjoyed being a "funny-guy". Hell, it's one of the few traits I have that people actually compliment me for. Anyways, it's more to give myself the versatility to do both fun roles but also do a classic action hero if need be... but mostly to be able to play a proper fucking villain. God I love playing evil characters.

And no worries about the long posts. It's just great to meet somebody who's so passionate about their workout and hobby, that they have the time to help others out.

Say, how about I add you here on FJ and on Steam? I'd like to chat sometime and maybe you could give me some more tips in the future when I need it? I would appreciate it immensly. If nothing else, just to have someone to talk to about progress etc.
User avatar #64 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
Sure thing i'd be happy to add you, I talk to quite a few people about and you having someone to talk about it would keep you motivated too.
User avatar #60 - bulwark (04/26/2015) [-]
Don't get me wrong though, I want to lose weight and get fit for the sake of losing weight and getting fit. But having an easier time with casting isn't a bad side effect
User avatar #62 - ocdrawer (04/26/2015) [-]
I also know the feeling, I didn't start powerlifting to lose weight even though I was fat, I just did it because I enjoyed it and I loved being able to lift huge weights that normal people couldn't even get off the floor. Well... that and I also like food a lot, I always say when you first begin lifting you eat to lift but when you get bulky you lift to eat, you'll eat like a horse because of how much energy your body will use
