I brainfarted and left out a huge chunk of what I was supposed to say in that message...

I have always defended france when people give them shit for surrendering almost a century ago. They are outmanned, outgunned and trying to fight an open war would have resulted in the slaughter of their people with the same end result. Their leaders had a choice to make and looked at the bigger picture. Sometimes backing down from a fight you can't win isn't cowardice, it is wisdom.

What I had initially intended for that comment that everyone always says America needs to be constantly fixing problems in other countries but when we actually do we are chastised for it. We might be a powerful nation but other nations are not defenseless. We have enemies within our own borders we are trying to deal with while we try to fight wars for everyone else. I support ground troops moving in to deal with ISIS even though I know that means I get sent over there as well, but to just expect America to solve everyone's problems will ultimately weaken the world as a whole both because we will be too spread thin while everyone else is inexperienced.

(There may be things I missed again, I'm distracted by multiple conversations.)

Agreed. America is always seen as a meddler but then the moment we actually do something about oversees issues we are baby killers, evil and world bullies. To eliminate enemies within their own borders is the job of that nation's government, we have our own problems to deal with.

I mean it more as America's role on this should be trying to eliminate the source and assisting other nations when we invade a place we tend to fuck it up. France knows how to police it's borders and people better they've been doing it for centuries.

That's got to be performed by your government. If America or other nations come in to do it you'll lose your sovereignty. At the end of the day that's a shitty, situation with the mass I migration of Muslims it's probably going to really tough.

...The VW beetle was one of the greatest cars to ever come out of Germany. You could replace the engine with a new one in less than two hours if you knew how to turn a wrench and owned a floor jack.

Now, if you're talking about year 2000+ BMW, Mercedes, or Audi, you've got an argument, but the beetle was a minimalist car built for the common man.
User avatar
#83 - thunderchild (11/08/2015) [-]
Like I said the beetle was good but modern be is a long drop from that. It's a company with a goal to be the biggest. They've lost sight of what made them great.

Don't forget who designed the VW!

Hitler created it for the common man.

Where Ford was only for millionaires.

Ferdinand Porsche designed the beetle, and the Ford Model T was the original reasonably priced car.

Nice try though...
User avatar
#90 - deutschblut (11/08/2015) [-]
Ford supposibly made an affordable car.

At the time of WWI-WWII Ford was making tanks, and sold ZERO cars.

Porsche was hired by Hitler to execute his idea for a simple car that could carry 2 adults and 3 kids, that was efficient, affordable, and easy to maintain. The Beetle was to be priced the same as a motorbike, and available to all Germans on a non-interest credit plan.

All Hitler's baby.

You can make fun of Germans for a lot of things, but their engineering is top notch.
User avatar
#78 - oceanmist (11/08/2015) [-]
Top notch in some aspects yes, but they're also overly complicated and fragile while being hard to maintain. They still have their reputation for their 80's Mercedes and such that run forever.
