I believe gmos should be carefully studied, monitored and regulated.
Also that all food with gmos should be labled as such to give people right to chose to eat it or not.
But I am sick of people attacking entire field of study just because of irrational fear and one company's shitty practices.

well yea their fear isn't based in logic but it is somewhat justified because they don't want to become a victim of bad gmo crops and their viewing it as a better safe than sorry view . its like nuclear power we can say its safe all we want but it only takes one mistake to have everyone paranoid and trying to shut everything down.

Except some of the gmo crops have been around for a very long time.
For example golden rice has been fed to rats for over 100 generations, with no anomalous health problems occuring.
I'm sorry but if something does not show any adverse effects in 100 effing GENERATIONS (in human term that's 2000 years) then its pretty fucking safe.
User avatar #158 - thraza (08/10/2013) [-]
well there are other issues when you go beyond what is natural like gmo crops spreading outside of fields and screwing with local wildlife. also though rats are similar to humans they are not identical so there still can be issues that might happen. and even though the risk's of something being bad for us and passing the test's done is very rare the possibility still has people paranoid due to the fact that alot of damage can be done if a dangerous gmo got released. also there is a very long history of things that were thought to be safe being actually dangerous. also people are paranoid of things that can cause this much change in the world because one wrong step could cause alot of horible things to happen.

Also did you know the citrus fruit and many others have been modified to look the was they are now? Lemons for instance are naturally lumpy and oddly shaped and filled with a shit ton of seeds.

but doesnt he own the company meaning the companies money is his money? as long as his employees are still getting paid and the company isnt going under why cant he use his profits for whatever he wants?
User avatar #104 - thraza (07/26/2013) [-]
also people are up in arms because he is using the corporation to push a political agenda on a topic that people are really zealous about.
User avatar #103 - thraza (07/26/2013) [-]
yes but if hes taking the company money to do it then your purchase go's to funding his donations however if he uses his paycheck then regardless of whether you buy something there or not the groups still get his money. so people feel like supporting the company is supporting the groups but if it was his paycheck then what he does is his business because he is acting as an individual rather than a Representative of the corporation.
