From a Christian perspective, lusting of oneself, or lusting in general, is a sign that you are desiring something over God. It is becoming an obsession. From any other perspective, I don't know what it would be considered. The problem, in many cases, with discussing the reasoning of morality is it sometimes requires the other perspective to understand why it would be considered wrong. For example, you would agree that in most perspectives of religion, murder is wrong because of the value of life that is taken in most religions. However, in other cases, forms of pleasure may not be the central focus of morality because it is not the focus aspect of that religion.

In Christianity, a lot of forms of "pleasure", or lust in general, are morally wrong due to the fact that they guide you away from God. Lust for self is a sign of all the seven deadly sins. It is pride of self, greed of self-pleasure, gluttony of self-pleasure, sloth, and in some ways envy.

From a first glance, it may not seem like a sin, but if you evaluate these aspects of it, one can understand, from the Christian/Catholic perspective, as to why it is a sin.

I don't see how the other stories of the bible are relevant to this argument, though certainly a debate about biblical accuracy is allowed, but not in this discussion since it isn't the primary focus of debate.

Consider the following line of thinking. God creates sexuality for men and women for procreation. It is also meant for the pleasure of your spouse for a unity between you and your husband/wife. Masturbation isn't a form of procreation, certainly. It also isn't a way to form a unity between you and your spouse. In fact, it's a love/lust of self. Yes you may be just ejaculating sperm that dies in 3 days, but the act of masturbation is love/lust of self. In Christianity, lust of self would be a sin, i.e. masturbation is a sin.

The whole point in Christianity/Catholicism isn't "Oh, it's just a few sperm." The point is the act itself reveals something about you as a person. It reveals that lust for pleasure. I agree, it can be seen as a necessity because of the urges that come up. It may seem impossible, but it is possible.

The problem with the modern day culture is we keep getting taught that self-pleasure is more important than the maturity of the community. This brings about the idea that "Oh, it doesn't affect me, therefore why is it a sin?" That's how our morality is being defined today. You can either believe this or completely ignore me. It's up to you.

I'm just intrested in understanding what you think really. It's not gonna change much about me anyway.

The reason i spoke of other stories, is because when other stories are known to be false, why should i belive that the other stories are true?

But as pleasuring myself should not be bothering anyone, i will never understand that lust for pleasure is a sin. Whats wrong with lusting for/and pleasuring my self?

I don't think it would be a failure of God, but a failure of humanity.

How do they not make sense? God creates something, gives his creation free will, and designed them for a particular purpose, only for those beings to completely abuse whatever he gave that creation. Wouldn't that be a bit disheartening?
#120 - anon (07/01/2016) [-]
HAHAHAHAHA

You're fucking retarded. Who are you to say, or any religion for that matter, that are genitals were designed for a singular purpose? God never came down here and told people to stop touching themselves- only men did this. I don't listen to the word of man when it is so obviously wrong. The fact is masturbation is part of life and nature- that's why you'll even find animals doing it. When you reject it, you're rejecting what you are. There are consequences for such actions.
1. You are less in touch with your sexuality (making you a worse sexual partner)
2. You are more likely to develop prostate cancer
3. You are a more stressed-out person
But by all means, ignore me and call my statements sacrilegious and tell me I'm going to Hell.

Well, maybe he overdid it on the horny part, cause i'm having trouble resisting and seeing the harm in pulling my dick. Missuse the holy act of sex? Whats is so unholy about (ok i get it's not especially holy) about jerking of, throwing away semen that lives only three days in my balls anyway. But certainly there are alot of stories from the bible that dosent add up. Like the example with babylons tower, we have definetly built higher towers, flown higher and so on... why should i belive that god belives it's a sin to pull my penis but at the same time he made me and alot of other men very, very horny?
