Here are somtpyical feminist causes:

Many third wave feminists have voiced support for the legalization of prostitution.
Abortion rights.

You disagreeing vwith something doesn't make it less valid.

Also remember that the definition of third-wave feminism (although often assosciated with feminazism) is feminism practiced after the enactment of equality and anti-discrimination laws.

1. Nobody has revoked your right of free speech. As i've said i spent several years in a group where a majority had a belief i heavily disagreed with. Is neonazism an accepted ideology with an impact on political descisions in the country i live in? No it isn't, quite the opposite. Don't complain about your situation meant, i didn't write that you shouldn't vocalize your beliefs.
2. Gender roles may be a precursor or an effect of misogony. For example, saying that a woman is automatically better at cooking than a man is misogony. Why is it a common prejudice that women are better than men at cooking? Because of gender roles. Princesses are always depicted as helpless and in need of rescue. For little kids, is this a good thing to teach? While medieval society indeed was sexist, these are stories not a history lesson.
3. Then report your administration. In most countries this is clearly against the law. Surely if it bothers you so much, the hassle will be worth it.
4. Alright.
Believe it or not, many feminists have proposed that men's rights has faded in issues like abortions, pregnancies and child custody. Men should have a bigger say in these cases. This is also feminism if you look at #148.
You can also see that a lot of feminists are critizing anti-GamerGate like FactualFeminist, which also has been posted on FJ before:

The funny thing about Christina is that some people take her as anti-feminist
though according to wikipedia she terms herself as an "equity feminist" which I fully support since she does no harm.
Also according to wikipedia
"Christina Hoff Sommers (/ˈsʌmərz/; born 1950) is an American author and former philosophy professor known for her opposition to late 20th-century feminism in contemporary American culture"
which is like what I said before
"I've never met a 3rd wave feminist that's presented a valid argument.
I'm fine with the 1st and 2nd wave feminism but the majority of modern feminism is shit. "

To be honest I don't think little kids are going to say "Oh look how weak the princesses are, that must mean women are meant to be submissive to men."
When it comes to abolishing gender roles I believe that's the responsibility of the parent above all else, and I think a children's book isn't going to have a long-lasting effect.

That sucks but when you're in high school you tend to run into people who haven't thought their arguments through all the way. And there are at least as many men saying "Men are better than women" as the other way around. It really sucks that your teachers are so misinformed but having gone to uni and met some of the education faculty I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.
And in response to your second point I didn't say "hate", I said that it makes it seem like women are inferior. Our culture predates the feminist movement and so do many of our stories, they simply reflect the culture of the time they were written. The culture was sexist and so are a lot of the stories
Finally: most feminists don't identify themselves as such unless they are on the extreme side. Many women have bought into the hype that "feminist" means man-hater, and they don't like to use that label. That's why the "I need feminism because..." movement started up. SO that's why the feminist movement seems more extreme than it is, or part of the reason anyways
#187 - jippythebandit (11/16/2014) [-]
1. Learn to accept different beliefs. I was stuck in a class full of nazis for 3 years, don't complain.
2. It's not hating women, the argument is that it is reinforcing gender roles. They've never complained that it was about hating women. The alternative is balancing shit, it's not black and white. You just commited a logical fallacy, congratz.
3. Then report her for fucks sake. Teachers aren't allowed to push political beliefs on students.
4. If you only browse FJ for feminist arguments then i don't think that's sufficient. There are plenty of arguments that are good, even if i disagree with many of them. Respecting your opponents is key to being a valid debater.
User avatar #197 - thevsamovies (11/16/2014) [-]
1. "Learn to accept different beliefs" Yeah, I accept the fact that I disagree with their belief and I also accept the fact that I have the right to vocalize my own beliefs instead of sitting quietly back while they go on and on about theirs.
2. Please look up the definition for misogyny. It's like calling a book racist because a white person saved a black person.
3. I have fucking reported her and the administrator says "Duur the teacher is just trying to challenge you to think on a higher level"
4. I browse more than FJ. I browse tumblr, 4chan, Fj, Reddit, Facebook, Actual feminist websites, Actual feminist twitter accounts and shit, youtube.... Then I also talk to feminists in real life, just typical every-day feminists.
Please link me some good arguments or recite some.

Marxism is a valid political belief. So is fascism, liberitarianism, liberalism, socialism and nationalism. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it less valid.

The very basics of feminism is that women shall be allowed the same rights as men. There are of course different groups and viewpoints, but that's the root.
There are different levels of feminism, and there are extermists like you see examples of everyday here at FJ, but if you follow the core definition it's not ENTIRELY stupid to say that it's weird for a girl not to be a feminist. Feminism doesn't have to mean to fight for women's rights (or like feminazis, privilege), it also means that you passively support basic things like voting rights and anti-discrimination laws that are already enacted. I've never heard of a woman that has turned in their ballots.
User avatar #225 - thevsamovies (11/16/2014) [-]
See my second comment. I just don't like modern feminism.
And those teachers are modern, 3rd wave feminists.
#155 - billburr (11/16/2014) [-]
First of all your school isn't the only thing that exists; just because something happens there doesn't mean it happens in most places. In my school I never once heard any of those things.
Secondly, if all of the stories about men involve them being heroes and having adventures but all of the stories about women involve them being helpless until a man saves them, then that clearly gives the impression that men are superior. Do you not see why people would think that.
Third point:clearly your history teacher doesn't know much history if he thinks Marxism is practical. Elements of marxism have led to worker's rights and the social safety net but other elements led to the slaughter of millions, so pure marxism is obviously a bad thing.
Fourth: Feminism doesn't mean what you think it does. It is defined and understood by most people to mean that men and women are equal. Extremists don't get to redefine words just because they're louder. Does the Westborough Baptist Church get to speak for the majority of Christians? Does ISIS speak for most muslims? NO, they don't. The same applies to feminists.
#194 - anonymous (11/16/2014) [-]
"That it has been done is proof that it can be"

First of all your school isn't the only thing that exists. Just because it didn't happen in your school doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of others where it does.

Secondly, that is a big if. Because all stories aren't like that. All games aren't like that. Not even remotely.

Third, that point is completely ignoring what the point is. Sure the history teacher may no know what he is talking about. But that doesn't change anything about his point. The teacher still told the class that, and almost certainly convinced a few people that it was true.

Fourth, maybe true, but we are attacking those that CALL themselves feminists and follow the ideal that women > men. We are not attacking feminism, and we are not attacking feminists. We use the term feminist, because that is what the people we are going up against are calling themselves. What would you prefer we call them? We have a name for Westborough baptist Church...(Cont.)
#195 - anonymous (11/16/2014) [-]
(Cont.) that isn't Christian. So we use that name. We have a name for ISIS that isn't Muslim. What name do you give these self proclaimed feminists. We called them feminazi's, and people like you jumped at that. So what say you should we call them. Because even if we no longer define them as feminists, the effect that they are having on the world WILL NOT change. Not unless we do more than that.
#251 - billburr (11/17/2014) [-]
On my third point I was agreeing with him.
Second point it's not a big if because that's what princess stories are about although I'm sure there are exceptions
And on to your fourth point: call them whatever you want, just don't act like they're the majority. I said these were minority beliefs and he wanted to rebut that. Extreme feminists are just louder, they are not more numerous.
On to your first point: I'd bet you think that was clever. It wasn't. He said something was far from a minority opinion based on some people at his school, that isn't evidence. His entire argument was based on like a dozen people.
#254 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
For point one... You are literally making the same argument as him....therefore basing it on a dozen people...
#253 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
Its a big if because princess stories aren't the only one that exist. They are a very tiny fucking fraction of the stories and games that exist.
#258 - billburr (11/17/2014) [-]
I never mentioned games and we were talking about princess stories. Read the comment again.
And I don't think these are minority beliefs because I never heard them at my school, I think they are minority beliefs based on reading about feminism and a basic understanding of how people work. If you think a popular belief is totally unreasonable, you often misunderstand either the belief or its popularity
User avatar #176 - thevsamovies (11/16/2014) [-]
1. I take AP classes and I'm stuck in a classroom full of feminists who constantly rant on and on and on. It's fucking annoying as shit and I don't even see how it's fair. Clearly feminism is prominent enough that I'd be surrounded by 20 feminists in a class
2. How the fuck is that hating women? It's a fucking children's book about an adventure. What is your alternative? Only having princesses saving men? Double standards.
3. Yeah, but guess what? everyone believes her and thinks she's a goddess because she's a teacher. students blindly follow teachers.
4. I've never met a 3rd wave feminist that's presented a valid argument.
I'm fine with the 1st and 2nd wave feminism but the majority of modern feminism is shit.

Because of a certain amount of pettiness on my part, I recently found myself skulking the depths of your profile to judge your character due to one of your impetuous comment to me. And in the aforementioned quest, I noticed you bothering this poor gentleman as well as myself. Therefore, I shall descend to your level to try and communicate this one simple but very important message:

shut up faggot.
