| I was a christian until the age of 18. I was sent to a private christian school where I studied for 13 years. After going to a non-religious university, I noticed how closed minded the people were in that school, and some bad things they did with the students (like promising certain events for example, we raised the money for it, event never happens, they keep the money). I started gathering all the stuff that's happened in my life and the things I've studied (biology, history, psychology for example) and it just doesn't make sense for a god to exist, especially considering the human race has had dozens upon dozens of gods throughout history, so why would this one be the real one when it's not even the first one in existence? | ||

| Indeed, you're 100% correct. The only way to define what is what, is to see what the general consensus is in that community. The problem would arise when one community believes something that another doesn't. That's why there are so many different religions (and why those religions have different meanings and beliefs of what is in the bible), they couldn't stand what the Catholic church, or any other church believed. There is no way to define what evil and good truly is, but personally, I believe that jealousy is a bad emotion. For others it may not be so though. I wouldn't agree that it is impossible to define good and evil. I would suggest you read Sam Harris' book, The Moral Landscape. He makes some excellent points about this subject. Basically, he argues that whether an action is good or evil rests on its effects on the well-being of living, conscious creatures, which can be measured in regards to different states of the brain. Since this is a measurable quality of conscious beings, the "goodness" of an action can be quantified. Thus, given the proper information about how the well-being of conscious creatures is affected by an action, one can make a scientifically valid judgment on whether the action is good or evil. The logical conclusion of this argument is that good and evil can be absolutely defined, given enough information about the effects of actions can be collected. Obviously, in the current state of our scientific knowledge on the subject and the thought process of society, we have a long way to go before we can accurately define good and evil, and thus decide which course of action to take in any given situation is the morally correct one. However, one day we may eventually reach that point. I believe that jealousy in small doses is okay. For example if you get jealous of other men being around your wife, it shows you care.. However i can see that it shows a lack of trust. | ||

| I do agree with you that the more the human suffers, the closer it tries to get to a deity (be that God, or any other deity in history), but, I do not agree that we created evil. I'm not a Christian but I've read the bible for 13 years, which may or may not be more than others, but the point I'm trying to make is that I've studied the book pretty well. We didn't create Satan, so we didn't create evil. Also, God created everything we see, and we can clearly see evil as well, so I do believe god created evil. Do not forget that god himself said he is a jealous and angry god, so god can have feelings that are generally considered bad (evil) yet didn't create evil per say? I do not believe in free will either. The bible states that god knows the beginning and the end, so he knows every single decision you will do. In other words, all you do has already been decided by fate, meaning, if you're destined to go to hell, there is nothing you can do to change your fate, since god knows everything in this universe. If god """"decides"""" to save you, you were meant to be saved since the beginning, that was your fate. I want to add that I do not want to offend anyone here, but I do love a good debate, so please be patient with me, as I have no ill intent towards anyone here, I'm just an atheist man who loves getting into *respectable* arguments. And i would say i am also just an atheist man, but i am only 16, so i can't really class myself as one xD I was a christian until the age of 18. I was sent to a private christian school where I studied for 13 years. After going to a non-religious university, I noticed how closed minded the people were in that school, and some bad things they did with the students (like promising certain events for example, we raised the money for it, event never happens, they keep the money). I am not here to offend anyone either. But how can you possibly define evil? If you define it as somebody consciously performing an act- that of which they know to be bad- then could you say that a person who is not of the right mind, whether they are intoxicated or mentally challenged, could commit a sin because they would not view it as evil? Besides how can we define what is right or wrong? How could we possibly know that what we deem to be evil actually is? Indeed, you're 100% correct. The only way to define what is what, is to see what the general consensus is in that community. The problem would arise when one community believes something that another doesn't. That's why there are so many different religions (and why those religions have different meanings and beliefs of what is in the bible), they couldn't stand what the Catholic church, or any other church believed.
