anon (12/14/2015) [-]  In a zombie apocalypse a knife will be more effective in staying unnoticed by zombies, but against an attacker who has a firearm you will be outmatched in almost all circumstances unless you can close the gap. If you're in the UK, like me, guns won't be widely available and ammo even less so a knife may be your only option. tl:dr Knife is only useful in being quiet and in close range in a combat situation. #18 -
dakkadakka (12/13/2015) [-] You do realise holding a gun doesn't exclude the person from blocking or defending themselves in hand to hand combat right? Real life isn't a video game, melee weapons will almost always lose out to firearms, since anyone proficient will just pop you as soon as you pop out to charge at them. Also karambits are meme garbage.  My friend, first of all my point was that a knife is still a valid and exceptional tool despite the saturation of firearms in our current society. Also, if you read the comment correctly I wrote "depending on circumstance" in the hands of a trained user, a knife can overwhelm any gunman given the weilder doesn't screech a battle cry before charging. Interestingly enough a knife wound is harder to treat a stop bleeding than that of a gunshot. Lastly an Emerson karambit with a build in wave feature is a quick deploy that can effectively be a strike upon deployment making it an incredibly effective EDC knife. Please don't dump on things you do not understand enough of. Read up on the "SILAT" you might just learn something. #44 -

Nigga I did escrima for several years on and off which includes stick and KNIFE fighting Karambits are garbage cowadooty shit carried by cowadooty kids, just carry a locking folder if your country allows you, or even a fixed blade knife. Gun always wins. Knife take lots of stabs to incapacitate an opponent, they aren't insta-kills, and make lots of noise while you're struggling. You treat this conversation as though it's a discussion about hand-to-hand combat versus A gun fight, we are not arguing that in a situation where both parties are drawn and ready for fighting. Second of all with a proper strike one could easily incapacitate with a strike to the carotid, lung, kidney, liver, Achilles, eye, and femoral just to list a few. A safety folder from draw to ready can take precious time in a defense situation. Lastly yes it is sharpened I get it services by Emerson when it loses its edge, which is not often, that blade can take a beating but it sure is difficult without proper tools an angled sharpener/diamond sharpener can only get you so far. P.S I'm not that fucker from Indiana jones discretion is key to a successful attack, you can't defend against what you cannot see or know. #47 -
