Well China has 240 nukes as of this year. The U.S. has over 8000. While Russia may have twice the amount, the average American nuclear missile is equipped with 7 seperate warheads, each capable of taking out a different target. The United States has a functional missile defense system, while China has no such system, and Russia's is only functional in the area around Moscow. And the grade of the bomb doesn't really matter does it? you get hit with a nuke you're fucked either way. And if not? The U.S. could always nuke the same city twice.

I didn't see why you brought up the yields of the bombs unless you were saying that the U.S. bombs weren't going to destroy a city, so I said if the city wasn't destroyed enough it could simply get nuked again.

but russia isn't communist anymore....
#178 - anon (10/11/2012) [-]
Because China and Russia are communist countries that would immediatly come to North Koreas aid if it attacks the United States with no provocation, and would then go destroy the rest of the world.

You should feel proud of yourself for such astounding intellectual abilities.

I'm confused. You just named two U.S. allies, which makes your analogy meaningless. The U.S. would probably cut all ties with Israel if they did that without a legitimate reason. Actually I have no fucking idea what we would do, we would have to pick a side or stay neutral.

Chinas most powerfil bomb would be the DF-5A with a range of 4-5 megatons they barely even have 20 in total. Almost all of the united states thermonuclear hydrogen bombs are in the 6+megaton range.

Name an operative bomb in Americas armory. Wouldn't they try to keep at least some of that a secret? Or is it actually common knowledge?

This is only what the government wants you to believe. You think a greedy, power mad country like the U.S. would NOT keep huge ass nukes around?

Why would the government release the power of it's arsenal to civilians anyways? Come on, think about it.

Each Trident II is capable of delivering a total of 3.8 Megatons of explosives, The Trident II can then target anything within its 9000 mile range.

Also we have around 15 subs with around 5-10 trident 2s on each sub at any given time.

It would only take one nuke to seriously devastate Earth.

look at all the Nuclear testing that happened all over the world during the 1950s-70s. More than one nuke went off.

I'm probably going to sound like a dumb ass here, but if we were to nuke north korea, do we have the precision to cause no harm to south korea?
#121 - anon (10/11/2012) [-]
Of course, that's what we invested in during the cold war. The U.S. developed smaller missiles that could be guided precisely while the U.S.S.R. built the biggest bomb they could with the hope that if they needed to use it, it would hit somewhere in the vicinity of the object and destroy everything.
#114 - anon (10/11/2012) [-]
Even if you had, there is no way for you to stop North Korea from blowing up South Korea when they realise there are nukes heading for them.
Not to mention China, Pakistan and India will probably shit themself when they realise two asian countries just got obliviated.
And everyone will bomb everyone except for the penguins.
Gotta love them penguins <'3

It's called a M.A.D. situation, or Mutually Assured Destruction. In the event that anyone were to fire off any of their 'nukes', the rest of the world including the target would fight back simply on the basis that the people would villainize that country and to not fight would be against the public. So effectively destroying one target means the destruction of yourself, which doesn't seem like a good incentive does it? Instead 'nukes' are more of a fear tactic, simply the idea of having them deters other nations from using them.
