no, if you stumble upon a society of people that have never left a cave and claim there is nothing beyond their cave, are they right because there's more of them?

You can't do that, each state has to pass civil unions first (only about 6 have them as it is)... then you have to have all 50 of them allow gays to be part of civil unions (some states with civil unions do not allow gays to partake).... then you have to give them all the rights of a married couple (if we are doing that, why not call it marriage and save the hassle and cost of passing tons of legislation through when there are more important issues we need to work on).... then you have to have an agreement that EVERY state will recognize another state's civil unions, which most states do not acknowledge a civil union in one state.... THEN you have the issue with "separate but equal" and I can tell you the idea of giving civil unions and not marriage to homosexuals really does upset them, like they are lesser people and don't deserve what others have gotten this whole time.

That solution is NOT simple, it's far far far from simple. I'm and Atheist, I can get married, I have no religion or faith in a higher power, but I can get married. What's the difference? If I can go to a Justice of the Peace and get married without a church, why can't we allow homosexuals to do the same? Why can't we allow churches to choose if they want to allow ceremonies for homosexuals while still allowing them to marry through a JP like atheists and others who do not wish to have church involvement do? It makes NO since to block the rights of one group, because one religion is super opposed to it. That's the same as the Jewish religion fighting abortion laws because the laws are based solely on the Christian belief, while Jewish religion says that a woman's health comes before an unborn.

One religion can not dictate the laws for a country that has no set religion. We are not a country based on a religion like other countries, we can not have our laws formed around religion. Our laws need to be formed around our constitution "all men are created equal".

Civil Unions are FAR from the same as marriage.... and who do we think we are? Just because humans label it marriage that means God HAS to recognize it? I think God can decide for himself which unions he sees fit to acknowledge....
