Because in the very inlikely case of a civil war a militia with some assault rifles will stand a chance against SWAT teams and Marines? I hope you're trolling.
User avatar #531 - whaawhaa (01/07/2013) [-]
But when half the country owns guns 150,000,000 vs our total military force of 1-2 million I say civilians would do fine.
User avatar #654 - SognaVetr (01/07/2013) [-]
You really think in case of a civil war the entire population would join a militia? If you are lucky, 5% will, the rest will run, hide, seek asylum etc. Not even speaking about the great number of people who would join the government's side out of pure fear.
User avatar #337 - thenukecity (01/06/2013) [-]
The point of the second amendment was just that. In case of something like this happening, the people can fight back. Of course at the time everyone had muskets so the odds were more even. You have to realize that the second amendment was made before the invention of fully automatic weapons.
User avatar #377 - SognaVetr (01/06/2013) [-]
You are saying that the second amendment is outdated yourself and therefore needs to be updated. If It were me, id' change it to "every citizen has the right to carry a handgun for safety measures, and are oblied to take at least x hours of lessons in safety first". Seems reasonable to me.
User avatar #399 - thenukecity (01/06/2013) [-]
I'm not saying the second amendment is outdated. What I'm saying is that the odds were stacked more evenly back then. 2 guys holding muskets are equal. A civilian with an AR and a soldier with an AR aren't.

Ok, note VERY HEAVILY that my opinion DOES NOT reflect that of the United States of America, its military forces, or my Marine Corps.

IMO, some very unfortunate sacrifices need to be made for the greater good. Very unfortunate, but necessary all the same. Sorry if its not the answer you are looking for. But on that note: We dont plan on sending any heavy forces into Pakistan currently. Mainly because they're our allies and their government wants the Al-Qaeda gone as much as we do, but they lack sufficient means to communicate that to the people, nor do the people know who is and is not Al-Qaeda. So theres no way to evacuate properly and... well yeah. People die. It sucks but its reality.

Sending soldiers probably would have made things even worse. Something about actually stepping foot in their territory without permission would've pissed them off more than violating their airspace. There'd be civilians casualties either way and at least with drone strikes no troops get killed and they don't have to worry about insertion/extraction.

lol. We aren't the Nazis, rolling in and shooting whatever moves. We aim for only the high value targets. Unfortunately, they are usually surrounded by some sort of security or weaponry, so a firefight ensues. From there, the media reports that X number of people died in a firefight and BOOM! America is to blame.

But to answer the question, no it doesn't justify killing farmers... Which we don't do.
User avatar #370 - thenukecity (11/26/2012) [-]
Okay lets look at it this way. I know American soldiers are good guys and I have no problem with them. I mean a farmer shooting his AK off randomly probably will end with collateral damage. But to really think that the drones aren't killing civilians, is kind of bull. My stance is that America either send in troops to clear villages or high tails it the fuck out of there before they get even more heat and people start retaliating.

User avatar #366 - thenukecity (11/26/2012) [-]
Insert soldiers. I mean statistically you were more likely to get shot in Washington D.C. than in Afghanistan. So seeing as the Al Qaeda are even more dispersed now sending in a couple men to a village would reduce civilian casualties. All they have to be aware of is that they don't harass everyone that has an AK. Weapons are easy to get over there. I should know.
#372 - ARRRGGGG (11/26/2012) [-]

No, ""you don't understand where this it's forced shit comes from" means that it comes from Iran and Saudi arabia.

When you said "implying Iran and Saudi Arabia having a few shitty laws makes Muslim countries oppressive", ...that isn't implied... at all. I have no idea what you're thinking. I'm saying Iran and Saudi Arabia are 2 countries that do this because of Islamic Law.

Not all Muslim countries force women to cover themselves, but all Muslim countries that do, do it because of Islamic Law.

by the way, Iran (and many other countries) would gladly bomb the fuck out of Israel if Israel itself didnt have nukes and the full backing of the US.
