Later in the game, you gain the ability to fuse Personas into higher level ones, because actually leveling them individually is impossibly hard when you've got so many. Each Persona belongs to a category, called an Arcana. Each Arcana also has an assigned Social Link, and the higher that Social Link is, the better the Personas of that Arcana you fuse. Higher social links means bonus xp when you fuse personas together, since each individual persona you possess has an xp meter on its own. This is important, because your main character has a lot of Personas by the end of the game, so that bonus xp can be all that keeps your power competitive.

Thundergod's post explained an exploit using a Persona of the Star Arcana called "Kaiwan", on a particular day, you can cause one of Kaiwan's abilities, "Tetrakarn", to morph into a new ability, "Victory Cry". Victory Cry is a passive ability that fully restores your health and magic at the end of EVERY BATTLE. This makes grinding a breeze, since you don't need to spend much money on health or magic restoration items once you get it, and can grind as long as you want.

I'm gonna tell you now about Victory Cry Kaiwan. Kaiwan is a Lv. 24 Star arcana persona who starts with Tetrakarn. While it's a useful spell because it will reflect any Phys-based attack (except almighty) once, the true beauty of it comes when you fuse the persona on a day where the Fusion Forecast gives the "skill change" bonus. When it's fused with the least amount of passed-on skills, there's a random chance of Tetrakarn morphing into Victory Cry (full HP/SP restore after winning a battle), and you get this WAY before Rise gets the same thing, making it so you can stretch your grinding out for as long as you need early on. If Kaiwan gets Victory Cry, he makes great fusion fodder for passing the skill to other personas, so keep that in mind. Also, since you're in Golden, try and get a Slime. Once it learns Resist Physical you can upgrade that to Null Physical with the Magician Arcana in Shuffle Time and make half the game a total cakewalk.

He does give a lot of good advice, but mostly because he's using an online guide himself. For your first playthrough, just do what you think is right - the game is kinda forgiving when it comes to screw-ups, especially since you get a ton of save slots - so use them. Nothing is worse than overwriting your old save and losing something important.

The game is never technically unwinnable, since you can sorta rewind time and go back if you screw up royally, but there's a number of strict time limits to the game's story, and you can only do so much in an in-game day. So time management is really important. Also: your team's social links should be leveled quickly if at all possible - they not only give any Personas of their respective Arcana a boost when fused, but they also gain special abilities in battle, like canceling status effects, special follow-up attacks, and taking a lethal hit for you.

Damn. Ok so first play through make sure to rotate saves. Also S Link is really important.
