Implying being atheist is a belief. It's the lack of a belief system. The only reason that exists is because there isn't really a logical reason to believe in a god. If you want to, go ahead, I don't give a fuck, but that doesn't make it real.

If god were to actually go ahead and show himself, actually probably not even that, if god were to just give some form of proof there would be no atheists. Of course there will be extremists, there always are, but to say that people would still denounce his existence afterwords is kind of retarded. Atheists and Believers are not equal in this regard.

Actually I grew up in midst of the Christian community, I simply stopped believing when I turned 15, if I don't see evidence for something I do not believe it, if evidence lacks then I simply wait for an answer I don't need to know that there's an answer I will ever get I just simply don't see a divine being creating a universe. But I will spin on a fucking dime if evidence were ever found, I'm a man of reason.

What if there is evidence that is simply beyond human comprehension with the ways we have now? Anyways, that way of thinking ; ''I will spin on a fucking dime'' is what differs you from an atheist. You are a non-believer. God could appear in the face of an atheist and say : ''I exist'', and they wouldn't believe it. Atheist, like on my diagram is the 100% being sure there is no god. If you are 99% sure, you enter in the non believing area. Just like the religious. You could show them proof with scientifical evidence easy to understand that it doesn't exist and they wouldn't believe you. Right now IMO, both sides are wrong and nobody holds the answer. So arguments over ''Does god exists or not?'' cannot be made. There is no proof for either side.

I'm a non believer or "atheist" because I find the towards God to be far too underwhelming to ever change my mind. The sources are as valid as the Twilight movies are for the existance of vampires and werewolves, only older. I find the idea behind a religion to be good but no longer useful for a society as we're finding the answers to the questions outside of fiction. That is why I do not believe in a God.
User avatar #16 - thenotgay (07/31/2013) [-]
Right now you only told me why you think you do not believe in religion. The books are irrelevant, the ideas are not useful. Okay. I believe religion is irrelevant to modern society too. I still believe in a God, see the problem here? If we stop calling it God, and calling it ''The superior being behind the creation of the world, behind the big-bang, and behind why things are the way they are''. IMO, things are way too well made and making perfect sense for it to be only a ''coincidence'' of particules rushing into each other. There has to be something behind this. That's why I consider myself Ietsist. But I'd respect another person telling me they don't believe in God because to them, the concept of coincidental creation is probable. That inifitely small possibility happened according to them, that's why we are here today. I respect this way of thinking too. What I hate is those blindly believing in something without consistent proof or evidence, and shunning everybody who thinks another way then them. Like religious AND atheists. Just because society (a.k.a your friends, family and medias) tells you there is no god and religious people are dumbasses OR to believe in a book written by humans saying that god exists doesn't mean it's the way it is.

You have your one source there, all fine and well I don't really care. I don't believe in a God and if you keep your beliefs out of my way we can get along famously!
User avatar #14 - thenotgay (07/31/2013) [-]
That's not the point here. The point is explaining the differences between atheism and non-believing. If you don't believe in a God, then why? If you can intelligibly answer this question, you are a non-believer. If you say : ''Well it just doesn't make no sense lol why would there be a bearded spirit in the sky what the fuck lol'', that's atheism.
