I draw tiny stick figures first to get a pose I want that looks good, kinda dynamic, but natural (i.e. the person isn't twisting in a weird way) then I start fleshing out the anatomy of the character and from there I look up reference material for costumes, etc.

I pretty much went with my first figure drawing for this picture so I dont have a stick figure of it, but this is one of the mini sketches I did for another drawing. I draw them with light blue pencils that are erasable because they dont really show up on scans. But that's why they are kinda hard to see.

Yeah there's two methods I've seen, one is you start off everything with stick figures and build on them and the other is just a really messy, sketchy approach. I switch up between the two. But as long as you have a good idea of anatomy, you can do a stick figure in any pose and build on it.

Yep. I think he originally wanted to ski or something but then broke his leg and took up drawing as a hobby. He was fortunate that his mom was friends with the owner of Dark HOrse comics, and she showed him some of the work so they got him to stay with a few other artists to keep drawing so he was pretty lucky to train with good artists at that time. I scanned that from a book about his life.

Basically I want the image to my left, to also have Apple Jack. As in, make the background gradient into orange and have AJ positioned like Pinkie is :D
