An "assault weapon" functions exactly the same as any other semi-auto, but looks more 'military'. Banning weapons based on appearance is useless. However, semi-autos make up the majority of guns used, and i do not want to see them banned either, particularly handguns, which are almost exclusively semi-auto (since bolt-action/single-shot handguns would be very impractical altogether). Therefore, I stand against the assault weapons ban. I wouldn't be opposed to background checks, and may be open to magazine limits for rifles, but no sweeping guns bans, and no registration. Why no registration? Look at what happened in New York. A newspaper made a map with the addresses of all gun owners. They're law-abiding citizens, not "potential criminals" or sex offenders. It isn't right to single out people for exercising a constitutional right.
