Valve and bethesda get's an 75% of the money
wich means you only get's 25%, and until you hit 400$ you'll only receive steambucks
"b-but my big mods with quality content"
sure they may exist, but a team of only one amazing guy that makes all the work in an massive overhaul to skyrim doesn't exist so far has i know , it's almost always an entire team of 3~5 peoples working on an mod, and they'll somewhat stop, why?
why someone would make an giant overhaul to skyrim and charge a lot of money if just 1 guy can make an shitty weapon recoloring and get way more money with it
mods wich requires colaborations will cease to be created because creators will fear losing money
basically, if there was an donation option istead of needing to pay for them woudl be way better
modding scene was always an hobby and something that should be made free
i don't know you, but i'd hate to pay money to get mods like SkyUI because they are so needed on PC version of games that one could qualify has fixes
and when some company starts to charge money to buy fixes for their games
everyone goes full bananas
copypasted this comment aswearing the same question, will give an clear explaination soon since i'm somewhat busy now
deleted the early comment because i fucked up

That's a problem of wrongly distributed profits, not the concept of paying for mods. I agree that modders should receive more of the profits.
There's no logic behind a group of modders not needing compensation just because they're more than one person. Their time, money and energy are still being put into it. There's also no logic behind the notion that people will stop making great mods just because some modders make profits off of smaller mods. That's like saying AAA games will stop being made because indie developers are making money. Small recoloring mods won't invade on the demand of bigger, more complicated mods. Instead, there will be more of each type of mod, because it'll be more alluring for modders to keep making mods.
What starts off as a hobby often receives enough attention that it becomes a way to make a profit or even a livelihood. There's nothing wrong with that, and just promotes better quality to the previous hobby. Example: YouTube. The only difference is that instead of paying for YouTube videos, we're sitting through 30-second-long ads every 5-20 minutes.

The modding community, especially with Bethesda games, is built on mods that use assets from other mods. Many mods are stand-alone and use completely unique or vanilla assets, but many also use assets from other mods. On top of that, many modders release their mods as "modders resources", essentially saying to people "take whatever you want from my mod and use it in yours". The introduction of paid for mods changes that. Some mod authors have already taken their mods down because they're afraid their assets or even their entire mods will be stolen and added to the new Steam Workshop without their permission. Many more have said they are now unsure if they'll ever release another modder's resource again.

That's not a big issue. It'll promote more original work, and if you're truly seriously about wanting your work to be freely used, it's not a problem to begin with. Another way to help the problem is to introduce another system that allows you to buy the rights of a certain part of a mod, or have it handed to you for free, if the modder chooses to. If you don't want your mod to be ripped off, this will help a lot with keeping your work original.

all you see on workshop now are mostly shitty reskins
but do you really think majority of the modding community will make good mods
when they can just make simple ones like "le zelda sword"
and charge little for it to make an quick profit
Buying right for mods?
i'll have to buy an modding license?
