It's standalone. You don't need the original V2 to play it, but it's best to have some experience on the game beforehand.

Steam like the Program Steam. This thing. It's a gaming community program developed by Valve for the PC. They are the guys who made games like Half Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal etc. It has a massive store that isn't limited to just Valve made games like Half Life. Sniper Elite V2 is for sale on Steam for $50.
