anon (08/18/2015) [-] I do skydiving. This year a former member of our club returned after spending 3 years doing BASE jumping (incl. wingsuit-BASE). He said that out of the 10 people he started his BASE "career" with, now there are more dead ones than alive ones. Also, one girl is paraplegic... No I haven't done this I used to live near there. I lived in Abu Dhabi, the video is from Dubai. They are like 40 minutes apart. I have seen it done though, and it was really amazing to watch. I think the company that did it was Sky Dive Dubai, they are the largest (I think) company in Dubai that does this sort of thing. I was going to take some lessons and skydiving with them, but I ended up moving back to the states. As for the excitement factor, I would imagine that this would be more of a rush, as it is BASE jumping (jumping off any fixed object B.uilding A.ntenna S.pan (bridge) E.nviroment (cliffs)) If you are looking for more base jumping stuff there is a lot of it on YouTube, and there is a very famous guy by the name of Jeb Corliss who does this stuff a lot. He has also given many interviews. If you are looking for more Dubai stuff, I think skydive dubai has a channel. Also most big energy drink companies sponsor this sort of stuff (especcially red bull) so you could just look up red bull base jumping or the sort. | ||

| Going near terminal velocity into water is like hitting cement. Have you ever accidentally done a belly flop? Well that stinging slap is you going very slowly. Imagine doing that at around 120 (terminal velocity while spread eagle, which is probably about the speed these guys would be going during this zip line, a bit slower due to the zip lines friction, but still around 100 miles per hour). To give you a sense of comparison, jumping off a ten foot platform into water doing a belly flop you would be going about 24 feet per second (16.45 mph). Alright, now you might think that since you are hitting water, you would just go into it and make a big splash. However, whenever you hit water, you have to displace the amount of water that you would take up. So lets say you have to displace 50 liters of water for you to enter the water. Assuming you are going 100 miles per hour (146.47 fps), and saying they are 6 feet tall, they need to displace 50L of water in about .04 seconds (that's how long it would take them to fall at 100 mph 6 feet). That would take a lot of energy, which their body probably has. Their body, however, would not be able to retain its form in doing so, and they would essentially turn into mush on top of the water. They are dead, like super dead. Oh wait there were parachutes involved? I guess I have paid attention to it. In that case yes a safety cable would be horrible. Yeah you can see the parachute on the guy next to him for a moment, its the black backpack. You say you've done this?
