Ocarina of Time.

And not because it's the best or a classic or whatever. I just think it's the most well balanced for a new player. The world is sizable, but not too big. The game's challenge is about average, but I'd say very manageable. There's a number of quests, but not too many to be overwhelming. The combat is very simple, but has enough nuance between the enemies to keep it interesting. Navi would actually be super fucking awesome for a new player. And while it certainly is an older game, I still think it would look good enough to not make the person go "eugh."

But I could see someone saying Wind Waker is the better option due to it's far superior and more entertaining artstyle, and less challenge. The only reason I wouldn't pick it, over OoT is just the size difference. I feel like Great Ocean just might be too annoying to navigate for a new player due to it's size and myriad of near irrelevant islands.

I feel like making progress in the overall game would be more important to a new player than just exploring for all the stuff. OoT still has plenty of that anyway.

Now that I think about it, Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker would probably be one of the best choices. The games are not very complicated, the story is simple enough to understand, the gameplay is forgiving, and the graphics are mediocre but not blurry/abstract.

Both games have moments of serious violence though. It's surprising how dark they can get without becoming overly graphic. Subtle things could easily be missed but most obvious things are easily amplified in their effect on kids.

What I kind of wonder is if the kid would get stuck in the game and just have fun doing other things. When I was younger that happened to me with several, though I eventually understood it and got passed it when I grew older or through amount of time trying to complete it.

No problem. You were drunk. I won't hold anything to it. I understand your point now, and I think you and I agree that this is crap that is only getting popular because of negative publicity.

Either the developers are actually edgy as fuck, or they are geniuses.

What was your TF2 board game like?
User avatar #11 to #10 - thelastelephant ONLINE (12/08/2014) [-]
A mess that i was proud of. It was meant to be a turn based game that emulated the fast pace of the computer game. Each class had a limited number of spaces to move and abilities that were either passive or declared, meaning players had to announce when they were using them.

Heavy could choose to attack one target or multiple targets at once and take and attack penalty
Pyro's Afterburn allowed for recessive damage for three turns
Spy's Cloak and Backstab were all dice rolls
Scout could move faster and had a Defense bonus
Soldier could boost his movement speed for one turn on a High/Low roll
Engineer could maintain his sentry, which took defense penalties depending on how many times it was attacked per round
Medic gave surrounding units a +1 Defense bonus
Sniper had to sit still for two turns for a +3 Attack bonus

And then there were two maps included, one for payload and one for control points. It ended up being a pain.

For one, we weren't allowed to replicate any existing maps

Two, I don't have the game board since I did it by ******* hand and I was too disgusted to go and retrieve it. I think I have my manual on my laptop, though.

Can you show me the manual? And that's even better! It's what I expected and hoping it was.
