well, it's not true that here are no animals in pokemon, especially in the first season a lot of "real life" animals are seen/mentioned, most likely fish.
examples:
2nd episode: ash mentions that caterpie is a bug-type, not a "real" bug and a pidgey eats a real life worm
4th episode: ash is wearing a cow costume
7th episode: fish in fish tank in the cerulean city gym.
20th episode: gastly creates an illusion of a mongoose
23th episode: you can see a mounted deer head, etc.

I'm not saying that it's not important for plant life, I'm saying the amounts were emitting are to large to be absorbed by plant life. Therefore the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere rises, and the greenhouse effect becomes stronger.
