Ahhhh there's the difference. our stuff is heated, hammered, quenched, etc, etc. The process of making a decent dagger takes at least a week bare minimum if we don't get fancy with the handle.

They were kinda designed with the idea that they'd be put into melee combat usually with a bayonet instead of bashing people with the stock but still. I'm no historical gun expert though so I'm not 100% sure on that. .

It is more of a comprehensive answer than I could give, the TL;DR answer is that you cannot make an undead and say "By the way, I made this guy with 10 levels of Wizard.", you have to find a wizard, kill him/her, and then raise him/her as a Huecuva or a similar undead (anything that keeps their respective casting score works, the link gives some options) , a good way to get around that requirement perhaps would be to take on the Leadership feat, have a loyal cohort that is willing to die for you... and kill him/her and then raise, only to get a new cohort and do the same with the new cohort, ad infinitum.

A Lich is what you are looking for, Liches retains their minds after transitioning to undead, and gain all the bonuses from being a Lich, the process is described on pages 167-168 of the Monster Manual I, but it only denotes the mechanical part of becoming a Lich, the proper ritual and fluff for the ritual is to be decided between player and DM, so go ahead and get crazy, if you need help on figuring it all out, Libris Mortis might be a very good book to look into and get some ideas.

Vampires also work, but Liches are generally better, becoming a vampire is highly situational, where becoming a Lich can be done by your own devices, plus, most special abilities gained from being a Vampire are of little use to a caster, so that's another point towards being a Lich, if you do want to be a Vampire, the mechanical details are on pages 252-253 of Monster Manual I.

Keep in mind seeking either of those is irremediably evil, but I suspect your character is already evil from being a Dread Necromancer, so that's not much of an issue.

Vampires and Liches retain their previous abilities and become stronger, so regarding the official SRD that's as close as you can get.

Although dndxplain or veya will probably know more than me regarding the player templates.

there aren't many player templates for liches, and vampires are considered a race.

After google-ing a bit I'm mostly interested in the bone creature and corpse creature templates (BoVD 184-5) it says they can arise from a create undead or create greater undead spell. I'm not sure how to do that though, and I dont think those spells gives me control over them.

Well, ring me up if you find anything, I am going with "You can't do both at exact same time, and whichever is first, even if a milisecond first, is the one that sticks." or "The soul can't take it and is destroyed.", either way, it can't work, it shouldn't be allowed to work.

Perhaps you could use Simulacrum to have your clone perform one ritual, and then step in to receive the effect? it would at least remove the issue of dealing with the ritual itself, and the clone is technically you.
