Light from the sun is absorbed by these panels that are on our roof. They convert the light from the sun into usable energy.

Yes, but unless you use a tiny tiny amount of electricity or have a hhhuuuggggeeeee roof youd still need to depend on an electric company for most of your power

That would mean your heating and air conditioning go way up because of the size of the units needed, even if your solar panels were 100% efficient at collecting solar energy and collected this amount over the course of the day the house size-ratio to surface area for solar panels would always be off. (plus the newest and most effective solar panels are only about 15-20% efficient)

tl;dr the bigger the house the less percentage of electricity needed can be generated by solar electricity

yes, AC is a total bitch. We got the Panels to help us SAVE money. its cheaper but still expensive.

I understand this, all I am saying that providing most of the power used by an average household is impossible at this time due to the low efficiency rates of roof based solar panels

"no one will believe me but we get most of our energy using solar panels........ " this, it got me thinking that you could have a solar farm or something, or perhaps a newer means of generating solar power

nah, its just that we got these new panels and my step dad said we should be getting most our power from those....i guess hes wrong.

Actually....There would still have to be a power source. I doubt that the back and forth of the swings would be enough to keep a decent enough pump running for that (When attached to a dynamo I mean.). Maybe close, but not quite enough.
#21 - how does this pump get energy?  [+] (3 replies) 12/13/2012 on I need one of this +2
