Have you ever played don't starve?
User avatar #2226 to #2225 - thechosentroll (12/18/2014) [-]
Yes and I got bored of it pretty quickly. Not really my cup of tea.
User avatar #2227 to #2226 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (12/18/2014) [-]
There's a multiplayer now.
User avatar #2228 to #2227 - thechosentroll (12/18/2014) [-]
Ah, being bored with the friends I don't have. Fun.

I'm your friend : <
User avatar #2230 to #2229 - thechosentroll (12/18/2014) [-]
Yeah, sorry. I'm kind of odd when it comes to classifying people as friends. I divide people into acquaintances, close acquaintances and friends. Acquaintances are people I know, close ones are people I know and kind of like, friends are people who I'd take a bullet for or give my kidney to if they needed it. You're a close acquaintance, I guess. That's still not bad.
#2231 to #2230 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (12/18/2014) [-]
Well when you put it that way.
I'm bored. How are you?

Today was the first time I felt genuine joy in in a month. I've been trying all semester to exempt myself from as many finals as possible, because those are painful. So far, I've managed to exempt myself from one, I've got an exam later today to exempt myself from another and I just came home after exempting myself from the math finals. My grades in math are an A, an F and a C. The F was an unfortunate accident, so today I went to retake the exam it was on. Instead I got a 15-minute oral exam, which I did amazingly on and got my grade bumped up to a B, which is just enough to not have to take the final. THIS IS AWESOME! I was hoping to maybe get a C-, which isn't enough to exempt me, but it's enough to at least preserve my dignity. Instead I get a B. It took all my willpower to not start jumping and fistpumping on the spot. Suffering and hard work are paying off for likely the first time in my life. I know they gave me this because I go to every lecture and exercise and actively take part. I just know it.

So, this day's off to a good start. Hope it stays that way. Kind of doubt it will, but there's always the off chance that life's feeling lazy and doesn't feel like kicking me in the balls today.

I don't even consider it dedication. I am paying to go to this university. Of course I'm gonna go to every lecture. That's why I'm here. Not going would defeat the purpose of university. Anyway, how are you doing?

I want to write a story
about a female alien with segmented tendrils that can shoot from her back
but the catch is
its comedy
she has a vulgar mouth and a lax attitude
and she hangs out with some nervous antisocial dweeb (think ron stoppable) after crashing on earth trying to escape a ceremony on her home planet
where she's crowned queen
which she doesn't want...

I came up with all of that in a few minutes during a shower but I think the idea is solid.

So I'm probably gonna be moving to vegas in the next year or so.

By then I'll be 18 and I can get paid for sucking dick.
Although how would I be able to ensure I wasn't raped or shoplifted.

If you don't pay an escort is it rape or shoplifting?

User avatar #2190 to #2189 - thechosentroll (11/25/2014) [-]
Technically, an escort isn't paid specifically for the act of sex, just company. Also, they pay beforehand. The sex is optional. And I'd be more worried about drunk cougars than dicks. Moreso about sober cougars.
#2191 to #2190 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/25/2014) [-]
I prefer women, and at that, I prefer older taller women.
Finding a cougar would be icing on the cake.
User avatar #2192 to #2191 - thechosentroll (11/25/2014) [-]
You don't find a cougar. The cougar finds you. There's a reason they're compared to predatory animals. Also, are you moving to the city of Las Vegas or just the state?
User avatar #2194 to #2192 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/25/2014) [-]
also why would that be a bad thing?
User avatar #2196 to #2194 - thechosentroll (11/25/2014) [-]
Didn't say it's a bad thing, just that you won't be the one choosing the cougar.
User avatar #2198 to #2196 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/25/2014) [-]
then why would you be worried about them.
#2193 to #2192 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/25/2014) [-]
The outer edge of the city. I think you're confusing vegas for new york.
Vegas is in nevada.

I lived there once ten years ago.
I've been feeling pretty depressed in the past eight months since I moved away from my home in the mojave. My mom doesn't want to go back to california, and I want to go back to the desert so vegas is a good compromise.
User avatar #2195 to #2193 - thechosentroll (11/25/2014) [-]
Ugh, god, the very idea of that makes me feel uncomfortable. I hate the heat. I can't imagine why anyone would even want to live there in the first place. Then again, it's currently 15 degrees in the room and I'm wearing a T-shirt, so I guess I'm just suited for a different climate.
User avatar #2197 to #2195 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/25/2014) [-]
I hate the cold.
I legitimately am always sitting on a heat pad here. I might be making myself sterile but I couldn't care less so long as my ass isn't freezing.

I hate humid heat. But I love warmth. Back in my old town in the middle of summer it could be 110 degrees with like 10% humidity, and I felt so good.

User avatar #2174 to #2172 - thechosentroll (11/12/2014) [-]
Like I said, not much of an FPS fan. To me it just looks like TF2 cranked up to 11, which is good, but I feel like it'd share TF2s' problems, also cranked up to 11. More classes is nice and all, but unless they make it like in a DoTA-style game, where you can't have multiple copies of the same character on your team, it's going to be nothing but reapers and widowmakers or whatever the flavor of the month will be, because balancing a game with that many characters (they intend to add a hell of a lot more than the ones shown) is nigh impossible. Even for Blizzard.
User avatar #2175 to #2174 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (11/12/2014) [-]

Hey man, you don't know me, but I have to ask you a favour. I am doing a school project, and I have to know the school systems of the Balkans and Eastern Europe. I heard you were Bulgarian, you are the only Bulgarian I know of, I'd like you to tell me what the curriculum of Bulgaria, is, what ages you have to go to school, differences between educational levels, what the cultural views regarding education are, how schools are financed, and that kind of stuff, please. It does not have to be super detailed, but a rough oversight would be best.

#2151 to #2150 - thechosentroll (10/23/2014) [-]
I am writing this while eating bread and diet yoghurt, because that's all they had left in the university cafeteria when I got there, because dinner ended an hour ago and I missed it, because I had almost 12 straight hours of lectures and exercises. Such is the life of a bulgarian engineering student. Keep that in mind while reading this, as my viewpoint may be a bit warped by hunger and anger.

The stages are as goes:

-Don't know **** about preschool, so I can't really comment on it other than that it's paid and not mandatory, so most people don't send their kids to it.
- Elementary school starts at the age of 6 or 7. It's free and it's mandatory for every 7-yearold to be sent to elementary school, though some can start a year earlier if the parents want. They learn basic stuff like reading, writing, math, some basic history and sciences, arts, music, PE. We start learning a foreign language in the second grade, usually english, though german and russian are also common choices. It lasts for 4 years, from the first to the 4th grade. Interestingly enough, we have government exams after the 4th grade (literature and math), which have to all be passed to move on to middle school. Also, the score is used to apply to middle schools, so you don't end up in a ****** one.

-Middle school. Also free and mandatory. Covers the 5th through 7th grade. Here science class is split into separate subjects, each of which is studied on its' own and in greater detail. This is the part of our education where we have to deal with the highest number of subjects - 13. Namely bulgarian(literature class), our second language, math, physics and astronomy, chemistry and the environment, biology and health, geography and economics, history and civilization, PE, art, music, IT, workshop class. Also note that all the science classes have specific sub-subjects, which are covered in great detail. ****** hard and made even harder by the fact that we have two government exams each year. Fail one and you fail the year. Also, we have even BIGGER exams after the 7th grade, which are also used to apply for the next part. Noticing a pattern yet? The exams are once again math and literature.

-Highschool. Not mandatory, but still free. Lasts until the 12th and final grade. Here you have some options. You have generic highschools and specialised ones called gymnasiums, which focus in either math and science, languages or technical stuff. Cooking and tailoring are part of the technical ones for some reason. Generally the specialized ones are harder, but offer a better education is certain areas AND when you graduate, your diploma allows you to work in the field you specialized in. It's kind of like a college degree, except a bit ******** . That is, unless you went to a math-oriented highschool like I did, in which case you get NOTHING and you more or less HAVE to go to university, since you have no degree and you can't work without one. Yay.
As for the actual studying, subjects like music and art are dropped and you get an increase in math and literature. Also, you start learning your third language. Depending on your school, the 8th grade often focuses HEAVILY on said language and you learn the equivalent of 3 years in a single one, so by the time you've graduated, you've got the equivalent of 7 years of knowledge. And people wonder why we have such an easy time immigrating. With this much **** , you have to be pretty ******* dense to not get the hang of at least one language, given that you'll probably spend 12 years studying english as your second language. Once again, yearly exams with two big ones in the end. This time, only the literature one is fixed. The second exam is mandatory, but you pick what the subject is, since the grade can be used for university applications. You can also choose to have a third or even fourth exam, but no one's masochistic enough to do that.

-University. Oh god, university. I could use up all 8000 characters just on this one, but I'll try to keep it shorter. University is not free, but it's pretty damn cheap. You can work minimal wage and easily pay it off while studying. HOWEVER, it is the single most agonizing experience you will ever have in your goddamn life. See, having too many university graduates is bad for a countrys' economy, since highly qualified individuals refuse to do **** jobs like sanitation or working in production, hence why countries try to artificially limit the number of people who can graduate university. Most countries do it by making it obscenely expensive, like the US does. Bulgaria does it by making it hard as **** . Some countries don't try to limit it at all and either their economies become dependent on imports or they have to import kebabs for manual labor and they overrun the place (just look at scandinavian countries). Anyway, getting sidetracked here. It's hard. Very hard. Firstly, getting into a good university requires absurdly high grades, since you've got 500 people applying for 50 spots. You have to be better than the rest, otherwise you can't get in. Luckily, you can always get into another university, since we have a ******* of those. Almost every major city has one or more. Our capital has 20, for ****** sake! Still, getting in is the easy part. Staying there's the hard part. See, the reason bulgarian specialists are so highly sought after in Urop (even though people refuse to admit it) is because of how our university education works. We focus a lot on practical stuff. And not the american idea of "get a job while studying to get practical skills". Almost every lecture is followed by an exercise. You study **** , then you put it to the test almost instantly. Have have a LOT of exercises. Especially engineering and medical students. Also, we study a wide variety of subjects. We don't just cover the **** you're gonna need, we cover the **** you're gonna need AND everything that's in any way related to it. Even if you're something like a software engineer, you still gotta study electronics, since that could come in handy. Also, exercises are mandatory. If you miss a single one and don't retake it by the end of the week, you have to redo the semester. Doesn't matter if you're dying of ebola or some **** , you drag your ass to class and measure that dielectric penetratability. Lectures are sometimes mandatory and sometimes optional. Depends on the degree. Engineering and medical ones have mandatory lectures. Same as the exercises - you miss one, you fail.
Haven't had any exams yet, so I can't say much about them other than that they're hard as **** and no one really expects you to pass all your exams on the first try. Not even the professors. That's why there's such a massive dropout rate. I mean, **** , It's still the 23rd here, which means the school year started exactly one month ago for my specialty. We've had a single little exam until now, yet 9 of the 90 people in our specialty have already quit. That's 10% in a month. My specialty alone has a 80+% drop out rate. You do NOT want to know how few medical students come out of this **** alive and sane.

All in all, the bulgarian education system can be summed up with: It's hard, it's demanding, it straight up hates you and will gladly kick you in the balls any chance it gets, which is often. However, if you make it through this meat grinder alive and with most of your limbs attached, you will be an unrivaled specialist in your field with a wide array of skills and knowledge, both practical and theoretical. If you make it through, that is. This is why bulgarians, while few in number, have managed to slither all over the ******* place and take a ******* of important positions in international organizations and corporations. Because you have to be one determined and hard-working ************ to achieve that and it's impossible to graduate from university here if you aren't the MOST determined and hard-working ************ around.

Frankly, I advise you don't try it. ****** like gaming crack. It's a free card collecting game. You start off with some basic ********* cards and get curbstomped until you unlock some proper ones. You do that with gold, which you earn by playing or paying real cash. A pack of 5 cards costs 100 gold. You get 10 gold every 3 victories and bonus gold for completing quests, which are **** like "Win 5 times with this class" or "Summon 20 minions that cost 5 or more mana". It takes ******* forever to get packs and decent cards, so after a while you feel invested even if you haven't spent a penny on the game and you can't quit. Also, it's actually pretty fun.

Not gonna comment on the porn. Dwarf Fortress does not punish you. It's like a game of chess - you're trying to outwit your opponent and predict their every move. Not much. Home for the weekend, enjoying the nice, stable internet, even if it's on my old, ****** PC that I replaced for a reason. Should set up a proper internet connection in my university dorm on monday. I need that **** , since my programming textbook is only in digital form. There's no paper version. As for life in general, I'm still trying to get used to university life. It's oddly nice. Most of my classmates are cliche programmers, who I don't want to deal with too much, but my roommate's a bro, all the people I've met are cool, especially the ones who weren't freshmen, the professors are actually nice, known what the **** they're talking about and aim to teach us **** . I don't have a single class that I consider pointless, people in general are a lot more chill and all the hyperactive party animals will be gone by the start of the next semester. All in all, it's better that what I expected in every way. I actually fit in here.

#2062 to #2061 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]

I don't like exceptionally boisterous people. You give off a calmer vibe.
It's much easier to talk to someone who isn't wiry or driven by intense emotion.
User avatar #2063 to #2062 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]

User avatar #2065 to #2064 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]
You know, you just made me realize something I've been wondering about for a week now. For some reason the socially inept people in my university group keep clinging onto me. At first I thought it was only because they need a mediator between them and the outside world, but now I remembered something. A while back I was curious if I'm actually an introvert or not and looked into it. Introverted people dislike the company of extroverted people - people who are overly enthusiastic and energetic about everything. I'm an introvert, so other introverts feel comfortable around me. I'm just an introvert, who happens to also have normal social skills.
#2066 to #2065 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]
Skills? Oh I've got the skills, I just extremely dislike it.
One on one conversations? Easy
Small group conversations? I can keep silent, listen and talk when I have something relevant to say.

Do I enjoy this? No. Do I freak out a little on the inside? Yeah...
But being around outgoing people makes me feel shaky and jittery and panicky.
Being in crowds of people like classrooms and hallways is where I really have a problem and that becomes EXTREMELY apparent because should I be bumped by someone or someone walks behind me or makes a quick movement I flinch or jump or maybe even let out a small shout...

I do my best to slink through crowds. I'm late to class sometimes because I take the longer routes to classes. Like say I'm on the second floor, and the class I'm headed to is on the second floor.
I'll walk down the small stairway by the last class I was in, go outside, walk around the building, then back up a different staircase just to avoid people.
User avatar #2067 to #2066 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]
I usually just feel tired when I have to deal with people. It doesn't make me nervous or jumpy, it's just ******* exhausting to keep acting like a functional member of society, since I'm constantly concentrated on it.
User avatar #2068 to #2067 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]
I feel that way afterward.

I'm a high strung person like my dad... And that's worrisome.
User avatar #2069 to #2068 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]

#2070 to #2069 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]
Well thats good I suppose.
My family has started to understand I don't like having long conversations so they've learned to be brief.

See part of the problem is... I get lonely from time to time.
And its hard to find people to talk to that don't make me want to freak the **** out...
And unfortunately for you, you fit the bill.
But it's nice having someone to talk to...

I really enjoy your company. I'm sorry the feeling isn't mutual.
User avatar #2071 to #2070 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]
I don't dislike talking to you. I just don't like it too much, either. I mean, it's just a conversation. It neither makes me get an erection or want to kill myself. I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing.
User avatar #2072 to #2071 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]
As long as you're not suffering on my behalf.
Even if you were it probably wouldn't stop me from trying. I guess I'm selfish like that.

I try to make time for the people that need to talk to me even if that's scarce.
User avatar #2073 to #2072 - thechosentroll (09/28/2014) [-]
Yeah, don't really care if you're nice to me or not. I'm not too big on the whole "sensitivity" thing. Insults and compliments are the same thing - words. What they mean and how important they are is entirely up to the one they're aimed at.
#2074 to #2073 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/28/2014) [-]
I'm the opposite.
I mean I can take insults. I'm not gonna be scarred for life if someone calls me annoying or something, but they still don't feel good.

I actually put in a little bit of an effort to not be physically and socially repulsive and it doesn't make me feel good if that effort gets shat on.

By the way I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I got a haircut and I regret everything.
I feel like I've had a limb sawed off.

#2043 to #2042 - venomousvalentine ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Well then I have some books you should pick up sometime.

Robopocalypse: About a robot uprising and a straight up war of man VS machine.
Robogenesis: The sequel, about the border of man and machine being erased between completely humanlike robots, completely machinelike men, and they all unite under the purpose of destroying an AI intent on eradicating all life be it synthetic or natural.

Then I'm in the middle of reading Gridlinked which as far as I can tell is like one of those old 50s hard ass detective movies, but way in the future with **** like light speed travel, genetic augmentations, and photon cannons and **** .
My favorite character in that book is a surgeon that the entire government hates because he uses loopholes to do illegal experimentation without ACTUALLY breaking laws. He's got half his face replaced with optical and neural augments and he has two extra mechanical arms that have extremities designed for surgery such as scalpels and **** .

That sounds very Warhammer 40k-ish.

There are no giant suits of armor.

Except for one in robopocalypse. And it was worn by a fat neckbearded chav who spent all his time playing petty hacking games before the breakdown of society.

Eh, not much of a fan of the post-apocalypse setting. The only post-apocalypse story I've ever liked is Crossed: Wish You Were Here. It's a spin-off of a comic called Crossed. Basically, everyone goes ******* and no one's sure why. Infected people people pop up out of nowhere. They're not dead or zombie-like. Instead, they give into their most primal urges to **** , kill and **** some more everything that moves and some things that don't. The infected develop strange red crosses on their faces, which is why they're called the crossed. It's the story of the survivors, trying to make it in this ******* insane world full of violence and imminent ************ .

Crossed: Wish You Were Here takes place in jolly ol' England instead of the US, everyone's an even bigger cunt, they call the crossed "plussies" (because the cross also looks like a plus sign), everyone's mental and then there's Jackson. It's a free webcomic that updates twice a month. It has a surprisingly gripping story and well-written characters, especially for something that initially seems like a dumb gorefest. I dropped it a while ago. I should get back to reading that sometime. Too bad I can't read it with anyone else in the room.

I might have to check it out.
Also gridlinked is good if you don't like the whole apocalypse thing.

I read your status so I'm assuming this is a bad time... but.

I don't know how to deal with anxiety at school...
I flinch when people walk behind me
I have a hard time asking for help
I freeze when I'm asked something...

This is no way to live....

**** , still on crappy wi-fi. Hardly loads the site. Replies are slow.

I can't really give you specific advice. I used to be like that, too. Not sure how I fixed it. One morning I just woke up, said " **** everything." and stopped giving a **** . I'm not awkward anymore, since I don't think about what others will think of me. I just do or say the first thing that comes to mind. It's almost instinctive. Less thinking helps, maybe? **** if I know. It varies from person to person. Just keep trying to communicate normally with other people. That's how you learn stuff - first, you can't do something. You keep trying. You learn how to do it. You suck at it. You keep trying. You become OK at it. You keep practicing and you become good at it.
