Armor which is made to be blaster resistant, I doubt theres much in the way of impact absorbtion in it. Same reason why you can still fuck a knight in armor up with a hammer, and that fucker is even wearing quilt or some shit underneath.
User avatar
#15 - thechosentroll (9 hours ago) [-]
You don't fuck up a knight with a hammer because there's no shock absorbtion, you fuck him up because plate armor isn't designed to take blows, it's designed to deflect them to the side. So, to actually do damage you need a spike or a hammer to bite into the metal in order to actually hit properly. And even then, unless it's a hit to the head, it's mostly just meant to knock the knight down, so you can jam a dagger in his eye or some shit.

Shock absorbtion ain't got nothing to do with it. And it may be blaster armor, but it's still a single solid piece of whatever the fuck it's made of. The very fact that it's solid means it's going to make most of the blows glance or at least not hurt all that much.
User avatar
#16 - iqequalzero (8 hours ago) [-]
That fact that is solid is literally what will make the force of the blows transfer through it and into his body. Armor doesnt do much against blunt force which is why you wear some sort of padding underneath. Now I dunno if storm trooper armor has any padding, though I suspect some Star Wars experts do.

#17 - thechosentroll (8 hours ago) [-]
You don't seem to understand how pressure works. If you kick a guy in the ribs, you apply pressure in a small area and it hurts like a bitch. If you kick a guy who's wearing solid armor in the ribs, the armor spreads out the force through the whole side of the body and you get the same pressure, but over a much larger area, which feels more like being pushed. It's the same reason why bumping into someone isn't so bad, but bumping into a knife is gonna result in a knife sticking out of you - the same pressure applied to a smaller area results in a much greater force in that area and thus more damage. It's basic physics.
User avatar
#18 - iqequalzero (8 hours ago) [-]
Yeah, but without something between you and the armor, if its just laying flat on your body, thats hardly gonna do much in making a kick in the stomach not hurt.
User avatar
#19 - thechosentroll (8 hours ago) [-]
No, it is. Assuming it doesn't just bend, it's going to spread the force through the whole side of your body, making it feel like you just fell on your side, rather than got kicked in the ribs.

Also, I assume there's some padding under it. Less for protection and more for comfort, cause they're expected to wear that shit all fucking day. If the armor's not padded, that shit would be extremely uncomfortable within an hour. Plus, I thought that shit was designed to help them operate in any conditions, even in the vacuum of space. If you want a suit that can do that, you can't just make it a gimp suit with plastic glued onto it, you need padding, electronics and whatnot to go through it.

i just need to get into that discussion, because you are both wrong.
we constantly see troopers die from blaster fire, we also see them easily get knocked out from blunt trauma.
this suggests that their armor is more spiritual in nature.
#23 - thechosentroll (5 hours ago) [-]
That sounds absolutely retarded. Therefore, it's perfectly possible it's what Lucas was thinking.

The way I see it, I imagine it's like flak armor in 40k - cheap, easy to produce and good enough. Cause there's some similarities between the imperial guard in 40k and the stormtroopers in SW. For starters, their job isn't to fight the big guys. Guardsmen aren't expected to be able to stand up to demons and spacemarines and shit, stormtroopers aren't expected to deal with rancors and jedi and shit. Both groups are mostly just sent in to deal with rebelions and conquer backwards planets at the edge of the galaxy, where the worst they have to deal with is savages with rocks and maybe gunpowder weapons. Against those, their armor is more than adequate. Against energy weapons, eeeeeeeeh, it's OK. Flak armor isn't really designed to stop a direct hit, it's meant to stop grazing shots and maybe absorb enough of the force of a direct shot to let the guardsman survive long enough for a medic to come pick them up. In much the same way, you see stormtroopers go down all the time, but you can't be sure that they're dead, it's perfectly possible the armor just makes the injury non-lethal. It still takes them out of action, but they'll live to fight another day.

In short, it's not amazing, but it's good enough for what they normally deal with. You can't blame the empire for not designing every single suit to be blaster-proof and jedi-proof, that shit would bankrupt it.

That´s the thing I like about Negan, he still IS redeemable. It´s so far out that he´s practically irredeemable, but in principle, he still is.

He´s not that different from Rick, he does what, in his eyes, needs to be done, but none of his crimes are irredeemable. He kills. Everybody kills in this show. Killing can be justified. But he stays away from the crimes that can´t be justified (rape, for example) and even actively prevents it or kills his own subordinates for commiting or trying to commit these crimes.

Even in the comics he doesn't stand for that shit. Why I have always enjoyed him as a character. I'm interested in seeing how the whole baby thing will play out in the show since Judith is long dead in the comics.
#94 - bakagaijin (6 hours ago) [-]
How and when did Judith die?
User avatar
#134 - sirbonzaiatak (4 hours ago) [-]
Upon the governor attacking the prison, Tyreese gets his head cut off by the governor. Lori and Judith attempt to run away and a single bullet kills them both by traveling through her back and into the baby. Hershel and his son also die by gunfire in this attack.
Other things from the comics:
-Tyreese has a daughter and her and her boyfriend are cut into pieces by a serial killer prisoner
-Carl pops Shane like its fucking nothing
-Abraham died by arrow to throat
-Eugene and Rosita marry
-michone hates the governor because he raped her repeatedly
-Rick and Andrea get married, Carl calls her mom (she dead in show, carol kinda filled her role)

Actually the bullet hit Lori in the back, made her fall forward unable to move, and she fell right on top of judith. If that didn't kill her, the roamers coming for them soon after did

K but what about neegan?

Also I don't think I could stand Andrea being still alive still.
#147 - anon (3 hours ago) [-]
You're a little off with some of those. Tyreese's daughter and boyfriend try to kill themselves, but only his daughter dies. Then he strangles the boyfriend to death.

It's the comic book version of Beth and another sister that doesn't exist in the show that get killed by the prisoner.

The rest of your statement is true minus some small details.

Not really. Your average person spoke pretty much the same way we do today, even a bit cruder. It was just popular for people in the high society to intentionally look, act and sound like pompous twats.
#30 - vaelmor (16 hours ago) [-]
Fair enough, but they also had a significantly more thorough education than the lower classes. I always found the idea of separating my vocabulary into "pompous" and "non-pompous" categories a ridiculous thing to do. I use whatever word I know that most accurately conveys my intended meaning. I suppose I could start guessing at people's reading level before I speak to them, but that would be even more pompous wouldn't it?

I kind of agree. It's stupid to separate them, but you shouldn't overuse it. Fancier words are like a seasoning you spray here and there to make the sentence better. If you overdo it, all you can taste is the seasoning and the message of the sentence is lost, because people have to keep looking up the words you're using.
#32 - vaelmor (15 hours ago) [-]
I think that's more a question of sentence structure than word choice. Packing your speech or writing full of unnecessary fluff is a bad idea. The obscurity of the words used is secondary. Being concise also makes it easier for people to infer the meanings of any words they may be unfamiliar with.
