Yeah, the characters in GoT are very realistic, and the things that happen could easily happen in real life if it were in that time. (choices anyway, maybe not the magic part)
User avatar #267 - thecharliesheen (11/21/2013) [-]
I kind of like the ability to be able to root for whichever family I choose without feeling like a bad guy. I mean it's not just a "good vs. evil" type novel. I like the complexity of it all. There are some people you feel like an asshole for liking at first, but most of the time, even if they may not be morally upstanding, they're a fuckin' badass.

Tywin had a way about him.
He wasn't physically badass, but he just seemed so damn intimidating, even if he didn't have as much power as he had, he could probably get anyone to do what he wanted them to.
User avatar #269 - thecharliesheen (11/21/2013) [-]
He is literally the equivalent of that guy you know who, you may not entirely know why, but commands respect and fear from everyone around him. It's just the way he carries himself, the words he uses and even the body language. He was ruthless and commanding, and frankly even though he was ruthless, it's sort of a quality to be admired.

I don't think it's possible to hate tyrion.
Tywin is just a fucking badass.
Jaime turns out to be a pretty cool dude and actually gets feelings and honor.
And Cersei, albeit she's a total bitch, she does care for her children and does have at least a small soft spot.

The reason why the lannisters seem so bad is because they'll do anything to protect their family.
#261 - thecharliesheen (11/21/2013) [-]
I hate Cercei but love her at the same time. I had no idea these feelings were possible. It's kind of strange. I love how rounded his (George Martin) characters are. No character is wholly good or evil. They all have good and evil and their own quirks and reasons for doing things. It's just unbelievable writing.

Personally I think the fact that the Starks keep Hodor really shows what kind of people they are. Most houses discard/demean the mentally feeble or physically impaired, even if they're kin (ie Aegon Frey, Tyrion). but the starks gave Hodor a job, gave him a life and they respect him. It really shows that the Starks are different form other houses
