Yes they do and that's why they're better. When you're just trying to slowly move up at a stop light that's about to change or when you're in traffic and need to move forward a bit. Just let go of the break and it'll move forward. It's easier.

But you're using the brake while the car's trying to move forwards that's two opposite things so cant be good surely? :S (i dont know jack about cars) ;p just think automatic is lazy and boring to drive, i like changing gears and using the clutch i feel like im operating the car not just steering haha. plus my left leg gets bored with no clutch...

Well the point is not to start with heavy weights. I don't know what were you doing wrong, but squats are the best exercise there is and really should be done a lot.

I'm not arguing that squats aren't great, they are. But squatting heavy Monday , Wednesday and Friday really doesn't leave enough rest. SL got me stronger there's no doubting, that's what it was meant to do. But I look a lot better now doing a split routine than I did when i finished SL. SL for strength, split routine for looks.

"If you're gonna progress, you have to progress" what? SL is about getting stronger, its a beginner strength program. Beginners to strength training that is, ideally you wouldnt get someone who's just starting lifting doing heavy sets of the more dangerous exercises. And it should be hard, I did SL for 12 weeks and squatting three times a week for 12 weeks wasn't only hard it was, in my opinion, stupid. But live and learn... ;p

in the beginning, it's really easy to do those squats/deadlifts, I'm a beginner, I just started it, and it's easy as fuck. It's later when it gets hard.

Not for everyone, most people are dumb as shit and getting proper form on deadlifts and squats is very hard. Also, if you're squatting for 5 reps it should be heavy if youre gonna progress, not easy! ;)
