I liked him way better before the reveal. I wanted him to stay secretive, keep his main villain status, and have only a few details revealed about him start to finish. I also wanted him to eventually beat the benders and disappear without a trace before he can take up his leadership, his legacy solidified and his mythological badassery becoming an inspiration for generations of heroes in the Nations, but that's just me.

Although the show didn't make him a good antagonist, his 'development' was revealed only in the finale which makes him only to be understood for his personal reasons in the end

Agreed, one of the best villains ever. Good backstory, had good motivation, semi-likeable and smart.

i think that will be explained in season 2. And even if it's not, we know it is because og his exceptional bloodbending skills.

See? People complained about an overly conclusive ending, while that is at least a hefty subplot if not an entire story arc.
