| Ah. Come to think of it, I had those exact same size rings too. It does take a little getting used to with how "shallow" the bottoming out becomes, though. Probably varies from keyboard to keyboard, but it's pretty loud on the K70. I'm on the K70, so these won't do much or are you saying the base clack is loud on the K70? I think it's not too loud, but probably only cause I've only ever heard Cherry Blues andn othing else, and that loud AF. The clack itself is loud without the rings. The rings really help. | some keys do not benefit from having the orings on them on the k70 the noise reduction is not huge but it is definitely there i went with clear ones from rosewill, but above anything else how well it dampens noise and how squishy it is (this is subjective to your personal tastes) is what you should look at I used those for a while, it gets rid of most of that clack noise when the keycap bottoms out. Feels a bit weird at first, but if the noise annoys you it's definitely worth bgetting. The noise doesn't really annoy me, but I do a lot of game recoreding, so it may help with rducing nosie for quality purposes. The clack with Cherry Reds is already on the low noise side, so this would be good for me probably. And it's dirt cheap. I just posted the US site link cause the canadian site link wasn't working here. Ah. Come to think of it, I had those exact same size rings too. sniffythebird (01/06/2016) [-] Well, it won't do much for noise, unless you can get good temps with low fan speeds. But then you'll still hear the pump going. Watercooling hardly is quieter, unless you have lots of radiator space. Granted I've got some beefier hardware in my main rig (5820K @ 4.2Ghz, 2x GTX 980 @ 1500mhz), but those are cooled off two big radiators (420mm + 280mm), and just going from low to medium fan speeds my load temps on the GPUs drop from 50C to 42C. And so far, there's almost always been less bang for buck with liquid coolers. You can still fit a BIG air cooler like the TC14PE in a mid tower case, so that's probably the best bet. AIO coolers do really excel in small cases. Which is why I might get an H105 for my ITX rig. Even with all the case fans in it, airflow is still pretty restrictive. | ||

| The thing about liquid coolers is they actually have less bang for buck than air coolers, at least in that price range. The H60 is most likely not even better than the Hyper 212. And the thing to consider is they only really have an advantage over air coolers if you're using a case with very restrictive airflow. That's not an issue on most mid towers, and sure as hell not on a full tower. If you want a decent liquid cooler for an i7, you'd be looking at one with a 240mm or 280mm radiator, and those are expensive. For less, you can get a big air cooler like the Phanteks TC14PE (I've reccomended this one a lot lately, because it's slightly cheaper than a Noctua NH-D15, and performs slightly better). You can still get away with low fan speeds on that thing, and likely it's even less noisy than a liquid cooler because there's no pump noise. Cases can be a bit tricky, but the first mid tower case that always springs to my mind is a Fractal Design R5 or Define S. They're dirt cheap for what they offer, and airflow is good enough to make an air cooler with it over a liquid cooler. the 280mm radiator option on that poage for the $137 price isn't that bad for me right now, so it is still an option. Though I know nothing about liquid cooling, so I'd have to learn about it for a while before I buy it. All I'm wanting here is less noise, and I know having all these fans is a bit overkill for me. I could probably remove the bottom 140 fan and two of the top 120 fans and put the 140 in place of the 120s and be fine. I definitely do not need an upgrade anytime soon, so I'll hold of on the liquid cooler. #44902 -

IMO the bets mechanical keyboards you can get are Corsair brand, I have the K70 and it has red switches, so it's a bit quieter, and it also has any color lighting for all keys. There's the cheaper K30, but it's only red lights, but has the same keys + G1 through 6 on the left for presets. | I have the Phanteks Enthoo Pro full tower, I have three 120mm fans on top, two 140s on the bottom and back, and a 200 on the front, so it's a little on the noisy side, but it works. I'm looking into this mid tower www.amazon.ca/Enermax-Computer-Acrylic-See-Thru-ECA3280A-BR/dp/B00BKX75YA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1451853302&sr=1-1&keywords=.mid+tower and this cooler www.amazon.ca/Corsair-Hydro-Performance-Liquid-Cooler/dp/B00A0HZMGA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1451854048&sr=1-1&keywords=CPU+water+cooling but idk if that would be much of an upgrade. I know it would be an upgrade to get the water cooling andremove some fans too, which would reduce noise, but that doesn't eliminate the huge tower that I don't like the size of. The thing about liquid coolers is they actually have less bang for buck than air coolers, at least in that price range. The H60 is most likely not even better than the Hyper 212. sniffythebird (01/03/2016) [-] Same deal here. I dropped my temps a little bit too by doing exactly those things. It wasn't properly spread out the first time (did the dot in the middle method, but it wasn't perfectly centered, and part of the heatspreader had no paste on it when I took the cooler off). It was also rotated in a weird way just like yours. It used to be 90 degrees around with the fan on top of the graphics card and blowing air up. I was testing positive air pressure with the front fans rear fan being intakes, top exhaust. Now I turned the rear fan around and have the cooler like in this pic. All together it dropped it's long term full load (30+ minutes at 100% usage) temps from average 90C and down to 85C, and it's short term peaks (only lasting a second or so) from 94C to 90C. Still pretty hot, but I'm not using this PC for anything else than gaming, so the CPU isn't nearly as hot during regular use (65-75C while playing GTA 5, which is pretty CPU heavy. Also considering some of the hot air from the graphics card is getting into the CPU cooler). I would have just ditched the 3 white fans you see in the picture, so that makes room for a bigger cooler like a Phanteks TC14PE, but the CPU socket on this motherboard sits really low, and the radiator/heatsink won't fit. Cause even the Hyper 212 EVO which is only 120mm BARELY fits above the graphics card, it even touches the backplate a little. So I'm probably getting a 240mm AIO liquid cooler if I want to get an overclock on the CPU or need it for rendering. But back to the matter, the Hyper 212 EVO is still a pretty small cooler to use for an i7. I guess you could overclock a little with good airflow and ambient temps, but not much. I was originally gonna get an i5-4690K, but it still wasn't in stock weeks after I had ordered it, and suddenly I saw another store had the 4790K on sale which was just a tiny bit more than I would have paid for the 4690K. That and I really underestimated how restrictive the airflow is with this case. Just taking off the side and front panel dropped the CPU temps quite a bit. | ||

| Rendering videos much heavier than gaming, especially for a hyperthreaded CPU. My 4790K (also with a hyper 212 evo, at stock speeds) can grt as high as 80-90C if its under 100% load for longer than half an hour. Though mine is in a really small case, so I probably have less airflow. I wouldnt worry about mid 70's temps with that though. I redid the thermal paste and I noticed I put a tad bit too much previously, and I also had the heatsink oriented in an illogical way. So I made it blow out with the only exhaust I have in the back, and dusted as best as I could. Hopefully this all helps a noticable amount. I have to render another vid too so I can see if it helps. #44764 -
