I don't think its that they want to show they have big balls... I think its that the stunts are like the funnest part of acting! Think about it, jumping off cars or out of planes, crazy fight scenes, being launched through the air, etc. That's all awesome as shit stuff and if I were an actor I damn well would do my own stunts.

As a member of SAG (Screen Actor's Guild),
I can assure you that you doing your own stunts is not always up to you. Your agent will specify in your contract, or the people up at SAG if you're valuable enough, that you are not to do your own stunts. Robert Downey Jr. and Danny Trejo are on a completely different level of stardom than the lady who voiced Mulan that we don't even have a name for in the content without looking it up. I'm sure RBJ would do his own stunts if it was up to him. He seems like the adventurous type.

of course... but Danny Trejo said that he won't risk 80 peoples jobs, just so he can have "fun" risking his health. If he gets hurt, the film gets cancelled, and lots of people lose money.
So what he's saying is that he's not selfish, by not doing his own stunts. Or something along those lines.

Danny Trejo makes action movies as main star and/or main cast.
If he gets injured it can badly effect the shooting time, which then to save the money on the production, first thing producers do is fire bunch of low level employees, cut a second or third team for example. IF he gets hurt BAD they close the movie.
Tv show does not work that way. If she gets hurt they simply continue production of the series around her, filming scenes from next episodes and simpler scenes. And if she is hurt bad, every character has an exit "back door" and would replace her with a similar character.

After he made his name in Asia by doing his own dangerous stunts. After reunion of Hong Kong and China when having him as an actor and a producer in the movie opens 400 million plus Chinese market, and he is well known for continuing to film even when badly hurt.
Risk benefit calculation. He might get hurt, but if he does he will probably continue filming not go to bed for three months like american actor, and by him participating in the movie you get access to 2nd largest market in the world, which is usually only open to a very few foreign movies a year.
Investors are willing to take a chance on that.
