I read that and understand it just fine. It doesn't change one thing about what I said, did you understand what *I* said at all?

You are hating on them for "supporting" this institution, by which (as you said yourself) you simply mean having joined it at all. So you are judging anybody who makes the choice to become a police officer, period. Whether or not they are being racist.

But, as I said, it is a requirement for the good of society that *somebody* be in that force. Judging somebody for fulfilling a NECESSARY role is being a dick.

What "other countries" have done with their police is irrelevant, because you're not judging the institution as a whole (which would be fine). You are judging EACH INDIVIDUAL PERSON who decides to become a cop. Despite the fact that if you had your way and each of those people decided not to, we'd all be screwed.

That's not the point. You're hating on people simply for choosing to be a cop, which clearly SOMEBODY has to do. In my corner of the world, we call that being a dick.

Or are you really saying society would be better off if nobody was a cop?

Also, you clearly didn't read any of the parts where I wrote "I believe there are good people doing good work in the police force, I just cannot support their decision to support the system that promotes institutionalized racism." Reading comprehension, m8.

No. Because other countries have clearly demonstrated that it is possible to create a police system that does NOT support institutionalized racism or is at least much, much better than the one in America. So clearly, someone is fucking up here.

I totally agree with you that the police force these days is corrupt and in far too many circumstances racist, but we do need a police force of some type so that we can like. stop gangs and murders and rapes and stuff. Many police join so they can keep people safe, though it's true that far too many join so they can be power mongers.

Everyone should choose not to be a cop. That'd be good times for all, right?

User avatar #58 - theaphasic (05/23/2015) [-]
Well history seems to indicate that when a system is flawed, it wasn't "good people" within the system that made the difference. Civil rights movement, Women's Suffrage, etc. Most of the work was done by people outside/marginalized that recognized that the system was flawed and tried to correct it. But that's just my opinion, obviously.

You phrased your statement in a way where I have no idea if you disagree with me or agree with me. But either way you seem to feel strongly about it. So you do you. Shrug.
User avatar #36 - reican (05/23/2015) [-]
well how about this, i know there are a lot of good cops and all. and blahblahblah
BUT I have myself experienced the uselessness of them, as i once reported a burglary in myt grandmas house where i caught the guy redhanded, he fled naturally and i instantly called the cops, but they were on leave in the area ( police closes their office time at 3-4 o'clock) so they had to come from Trondheim about 40 minutes later, tried to find the guy by using a dog to search for him ( yeah, 40 min ago, i think he's long gone)
later at the station i gave a detailed description of the guy as i saw directly at his ugly face, but still the case got closd later. I thought to myseld, well why would they do that.
Later i found out they left him on purpose because he's a fucking informant that gives names on drug dealers ( sure i know that's a good thing) but he's a rug addict himself so why would he give the name on the people giving him the stuff he craves?
so basically because he help with one thing he is free to do all kinds of shit on the side and not get caught for it.
that's why cops are useless when it comes to burglaries and shit.
User avatar #59 - theaphasic (05/23/2015) [-]
It's not about whether cops are useful or useless. I do believe that there are good cops doing good work. It's not about the individual cops. I just take up issue with the fact that they choose to participate and further a system that is so flawed.
