Tidus (the standard name for the main character that you playing in FFX) is the son of a man called Jecht who disappeared one day. jecht was a star Blitzball player, which was an underwater sport which was kind of a mix between basketball and soccer, and was arrogant which lead to Tidus hating Jecht, and when Tidus got into playing Blitzball he always compared himself to jecht.
