Incorrect.

The designation "VR" is a designation given to engines where the cylinder banks are opposing at an angle much like a "V" configuration, but the cylinders are packed closer together.

The reason for doing so is that you can get the RPM advantage of a "V" but you retain the some of the advantage of an inline setup.

You're correct in one way, in that the W16 (produced by VW) is based on the W12 which in and of itself is based on the VR6.

But when it comes down to the design of the block, this does not meet any of the technical requirements to be considered a merging of 2 VR8s. IN FACT the more I type "VR8" it makes me think that there is no currently produced VR8 platform.
