Boys generally don't like pink everywhere so it's not marketed. Many girls prefer eye-gouging pink and many prefer something else. They're all free to choose something else. But if you choose overwhelming pink, what else than princess stuff is there?
to be fair part of why girls heavily move towards pink is because it is pushed kindda onto them. You get a baby girl? You color the room pink.
basically says it all
Now I don't see a problem with having girls have predominantely different stuff from boys, but not pushing them in certain directions at a young age will fix many other problems people complain about (not enugh women in STEAM, which is actually a real issue since many future brilliant scientist never start it since they never thought about it)
I had a lot of female friends as a kid, none with a pink room. They liked dolls and princess stuff to varying degree, I and my male friends didn't. The one I knew the best didn't get anything pushed onto her. She liked that stuff same as other girls, though liked plush animals and other things even more.
There are many, many studies all showing that girls and boys prefer different toys from a very early age when raised the same, with no influence. Sure companies push stuff, but that's partly because of the difference to begin with.
Also, no matter how much pink is pushed onto me, a completely pink room makes my eyes bleed.
I agree with you that there are studies that show girls and boys like different things, even as babies. The study you are referring to is probably the one where baby girls liked looking at faces and baby boys liked looking at turning wheels and gears and things. It makes sense, then, that a young girl might want a doll and a young boy might want a little truck. But the issue comes into play when marketers push only toys that involve beauty (dresses, crowns, makeup, fake jewelry, fake beauty products) and motherhood (baby doll care, kitchen sets, fake cleaning appliances) to girls, while boys generally get a wider market. Hell, what was the first game "boy" called again? Imagine if it was the same thing but it was called "gamegirl." People would be confused. It was ok to market that to boys, but not to girls. I think it is just something important to be aware of. I want to have children one day and I want them to be creative and to be able to make their own decisions, but it is hard in an ad-saturated world.
pink room as in baby room, children probably rarely actually have it in full pink
It isn't something that is gonna appear for everyone, particularily if your parents are good are parenting it probably won't be a problem and everything works wonderfully.
Personally I haven't seen these studies, and the guy I linked actually mentions studies that show the opposite, but I believe it probably is somewhere in the middle. From an evolutionary standpoint it makes sense.
Also you really can't say anything about how much you would like pink if you had it everywhere from an early age, since well, you didn't.
To be clear, my friends and I also didn't have any of these problems, but I also think there are some people that are affected negatively by this
That's what girls prefer, though. Typically.
I feel like it is pushed really heavily on them though. The advertising is insane. Girls aren't born preferring pink but it was started by marketers to sell specific baby items once we had the technology to see a baby's sex before it was born. That is how pink vs blue was born. Marketers chose those colors, not the children. Before that, all baby stuff was mainly gender neutral by default since you simply didn't know. What I'm trying to say is, we brainwash kids with advertisements into wanting certain things rather than letting them have a mind of their own. I feel like it is warping little girl's minds by pushing this princess stuff all the time. There is an interesting book called "Cinderella Ate my Daughter" If you are interested in the effects of the commercial business on children.
You don't have to buy those?
Buy whatever card you want, kids don't give a crap as long as they get a present
I think kids should be raised gender neutral they should find their own interests and not be forced in a role by their parents.
When a post on funnyjunk gets featured about a 7 year old boy being pushed into being transgender funnyjunk loses their shit. But nobody cares when a boy is forced into liking football when he actually likes fashion instead.
Because that kid is 7 years old.
A decision as big as changing your gender shouldn't be taken as lightly as children's simple interests. I really don't know how transitioning into a man or woman works, but I know very damn well that changing to be other one would change your values, and the way people treat you. Shortly put, it's life changing, and children aren't mature enough to make a decision like that.
Yes and everybody agrees, but why is it wrong to force a boy into being like a girl, but is it fine to force a boy into liking "boy" stuff, even though he might like princesses instead.
sorry for the late response
I didn't meant to take that side; I'm for letting children choose whatever they find interesting.
nothing inappropriate, god forbid
I'm just a random fag telling you that it isn't quite fitting when you compared children's interests to life-changing surgery. Sorry for the misunderstanding!
